With the War and subsequent societal developments, one sector in MS American society has been sadly neglected: The development of a safe, clean water supply. As it stand, the water supply provided to most citizens is more or less alright - but has no been fully monitored for contaminants, which puts people at long-term risk even if they in the short-term may be quite healthy. Problematic is also the fact that we spend ten credits on importing Fascist Canadian water, which is a clear safety risk. As it stands, my Progressive colleague Representative Wise has proposed a stimulus package over in House which stipulates federally funded improvements to the water infrastructure - this needs to be accompanied with strengthened safety regulations.
That's why I propose the following:
Further legislation will be necessary to fully make MS American waters safe, clean and healthy, but this is a first step.
- Requiring the EPA to set regulations, controlling the levels of various contaminants such as microorganisms, chemical byproducts, pesticides, lead pollution deriving from piping, etc.
- Establishing rules under which all public water systems must be monitored for these contaminants, through tests carried out using EPA-approved laboratory equipment. These tests may be carried out regional EPA offices, or state government agencies when certified by the EPA.
- Providing legal protection to individuals, who have been fired or suffered another adverse action in relation to the enforcement of these regulations, if the employee applies for this within 30 days of the event. [Whistleblower clause]
- Asking that special care be taken when monitoring the fresh water imports from the Commonwealth of Canada, to ensure no wrongdoing is committed.
