Flinging shit at the Ideas subforum page and seeing what sticks. So with Red Planet not going to be done soon, but I like the universe so here goes this idea:
You arrived. After so much strife and grievances, the United Nations gathered a large mission with captains from all over the world to travel through the worm hole and explore the other side. The idea was simple, you go there, explore the space above the planet that appeared on the other side and you come back. Just in case, the UN loaded up some weapons on each ship and allowed a small group of soldiers with each faction, it was supposed to be a quick land recon and get out of doge.
And as expected, it all went to hell. As you came out of the gate, you immediately begun detecting activity from the planet, rudimentary radio signals and noticed heavy activity on the planet itself. Then you realized that this place is populated by a form of life and even more, this form of life was advanced. But before you can do anything, the gate shut down behind you and upon exploring the stars, you realized that there is no conceivable way to return to Earth, because you might as well be in another galaxy.
Now you find yourself with diminishing resources, your crew doesn't have enough to feed itself for the years, decades even centuries it might take for the United Nations or whatever earthy body is there to get you out of here. So for all of your advanced technology and knowledge you are stuck.
After the initial exploraiton and listening of the signals, you get an idea of the language of this species, and you realize they are vastly inferior, based somewhere around the early 20th century in their development. Some of your captains want to continue studying, others want to land and take them over, because you will be like gods to these creatures. But it is your destiny, captain, you decide where you go.
