The sorrowful tidings emerging forth from this castle have cast a shadow of gloom and ill-will over all the kingdoms and lands under the domain and rule of King Charles - a thick fog of anger and discontent that obscures reason and consideration, banishes kindness and restraint, and smothers what mercy may remain in the breast of any true and honest man.

Philip I, Imperatorum Latinorum, son-in-law of the King and new-named glorious general of his cause, has been slain in his very bed by traitors and deceivers unknown - like as not beasts under foreign hire, who stole in close regard and fine counsel into the very depths of this realm and so proved their demon-nature in their ill actions and unholy deeds. That such evils may have been wrought in the absence of the King while he did campaign abroad strikes into the very depths of his soul; and so he has sworn that the vindication of this action shall be his true won, and those who did prevail such devilry against his kin and his people shall have it revisited upon them ten-fold.

King Charles further seeks that His Holiness affirm his position as Regent of the Latin Empire while his granddaughter, newly-named Empress Catherine I, is in her minority, and further vows that the surviving daughter of Emperor Philip I, last successor of the House of Courtenay to the title of the Latin Empire, shall be preserved against these evils and delivered into prosperity.

I hereby affirm the position of Charles I, King of Sicily & Naples as Regent of the Latin Empire while his granddaughter, newly-named Empress Catherine I, is in her minority.

In the name of the Lord, I accept and commit to the faithful execution of this heavy burden confirmed upon me by His Holiness, and swear that as fate has ordained my granddaughter as Imperatrix Latinorum, I shall serve her faithfully and unswervingly - whether as her regent or as her grandfather and steadfast ally. And that while I hold that noble office, I shall resolutely pursue the foul dispatchers of her father. While she lives, the Latin Empire lives on in her. May God protect and keep her.
