Treaty of Berlin

Post by Smyg »

The King in Prussia, on behalf of his ally the King of Sweden and his uncle and father-in-law the Elector of Hanover, has negotiated the following treaty.
In the name of God, and in the interests of Peace among all true Christians of the world, we the convened representatives of the Kingdom of Sweden (henceforth "Sweden") and the Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg ("Hanover"), declare the intent and effect of this Treaty to be a general forgiveness of all past wrongs, and a proclamation of unity and security with regards to the future. In this spirit, it is declared that, taking effect from the moment of signing:

Hanover shall repudiate all alliances, embargoes, and concordats public and private done with the intent of aggressive action against Sweden, just as Sweden shall do the same against Hanover.

Hanover (and all other territories under the lawful rule of His Majesty King and Elector George of the House of Brunswick-Lüneburg) shall respect Swedish mercantile interests in the Baltic Sea, especially in regards to the Sound Toll and including customs laws, trade and naval regulations, just as Sweden recognizes the British and Hanoverian dominion over their own territorial waters.

In the interest ensuring Swedish friendship to the Hanoverian and British crowns, Princess Anne - eldest daughter of the Prince of Wales, born in the Year of Our Lord 1709 - shall be betrothed to the King of Sweden's dearly beloved nephew, Charles Frederick, the Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, born in the Year of Our Lord 1700. Until their marriage, which shall take place once the Princess is of sufficient age, she shall reside in the Kingdom of Sweden as a ward of the King, to ensure her health and learning.

Done in the city of Berlin, on Twentieth Day of January, in the Year of Our Lord 1716.
