- Great Discussion on the greek matter. Following the Turkish defeat at the hands of the Russian Empire in 1829, at the desire of the greek nation, most european great powers send diplomatic delegations to London in order to amend the London Protocol that was signed by Russia, France and Britain in the previous year. What started as a discussion to reward the Greeks for their diplomatic support of the Russians during the War with the ottomans, quickly turned into a fight to decide the new greek king. All sides put forth volunteers, with even the Kingdom of Sardinia proposing their own candidate, however the great debate remained between the Russian Candidate, Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, and the Austrian candidate, Prince Luitpold of Bavaria, who much to the dismay of the Romanov Monarch, showed to be the most popular choice among the great powers, with only the Russian Delegation and the Greek representatives themselves supporting Pavlovich. In the end, a vote was held between the three original signatories, and Luitpold was declared king by a ⅔ majority. In retaliation, Russia very clearly stated that though they will continue to recognise Greece as a fully independent nation, they refuse to recognise Luitpold as their Head of State for the foreseeable future. The Young King is expected to arrive in Greece sometime during the next month, and for the while being, Ioannis Kapodistrias shall remain in charge of the Nation until the Young Monarch can organise a formal regency.

- Another great discussion ensures in regards to the Portuguese Civil war, as the nation is torn apart between the Liberals, the supporters of deposed Queen Maria II, and the Miguelists, the supporters of the new King Miguel. The whole ordeal is marked mainly due to the loyal, yet ultimately useless stance of the Spanish Nation, that in a stubborn, and in some ways suicidal manner supports the Miguelists to the bitter end. They send Diplomats to most nations in Europe begging for support against the Liberals, delivering standard messages that all seem the same from Embassy to Embassy, to the point a Dutch Newspaper even referred to the Spaniards as ‘The Wet Dogs of Europe!’. Such blatant support of the Miguelists attracted the unwanted attention of Great Britain, who rallied most of the European nations against the Miguelists and the Spaniards, who almost triggered further intervention, but backed off at the last minute, preventing the conflict from escalating further. That would prove to be one of the Spanish mistakes made in 1830, that would later come to be a source of Great shame and distaste for the Spanish Monarchy.

- A Russian and a Austrian delegation meet at the border town of Czernowitz and together signed a treaty to better ensure relations between the both nations and formally recognising territorial possessions.

- The Prussian Finance Minister announces a massive payout of Prussian war debt, on a scale not seen before. Striking down the vast majority of debt, but leaving the Prussian Treasury exhausted from the ordeal.

- Unrest continues to grow in Poland, mainly due to the abolition of Free Press, and the cracking down of secret societies like the Freemasonry. Large Public Demonstrations are held in the largest of Polish cities under Russian control claiming for Reform, although with peaceful intentions, many of the result in violent clashes between the Protesters and the Army. Most notable of these clashes was the one held on Plock, in which several civilians and a few Russian soldiers were killed in brawls all over the city. Under Russian Pressure, the Congress Poland is forced to place the city under Martial Law, and several arrests were carried out in the following days, with all the leader of the riot being rounded up in military barracks and vanishing into the night. Similar cases of Leader arrests and disappearances are reported all over Russia.

- The Russian Tsar calls a large council of Nobles in St. Petersburg, where he announces several changes to his government, most especially the introduction of several news economic and social measures to pursue Modernization and Industrialization within the Empire, as well as several reforms to the social structure of Russia. Such changes are controversial, for some Nobles believe it is a right path to modernity, while other fear such changes might bring an end to their hegemony over the common man, but in reality, only time will really tell. It is also said that all the Nobles who attended the Council were given generous gifts by the emperor himself.

- The Russian Tsar Institutes the Zemstvo system, in which local assemblies are created in the Russian Provinces and the local populace elects representatives in the provincial council. The system is still i development and it is expected to be ready by the end of the year, together with its very first election.

- A new Conscription plan is laid out by the Russian Government, specifying serving age, reserves structure, and a mandatory serving time of 6 years for all men, regardless of class, unless said man was the main breadwinner for the family. As a direct result, several thousand marriages are recorded all over Russia, with men clearly trying to evade the draft, despite all, a large reservist core is formed, ready to be mobilised at the Tsar’s command.

- A delegation of Chinese government officials and Bureaucrats make a government sanctioned tour of Europe, where they visit several courts and observe the technological advances of the European Nations, taking down note of technologies and mechanical processes, as well as civil laws and social matters.

- The Dutch government makes a large investment in Industry, building new factories in selected areas of the country. They also make investments to Dutch Agriculture.

- Several coastal batteries are built along the Dutch coast, and to the south, Star Forts and other fortifications are constructed in the southern border with France, which increases tensions between the both nations.

- The Dutch King makes hard efforts to crack down Belgian Nationalism especially in Brussels, where it is the strongest. The Government pays several public figures from authors to politicians to convince the masses that Dutch rule is superior to separation, an action that goes awfully wrong, as many of the selected figures make the exact opposite of what was commanded, making anti-Dutch speeches and rallies. Anti-Dutch, demonstrations continue in Brussels, Gent and other cities around Belgium.

- Sardinia Piedmont recruits 5,000 more men into its Army.

- The Ottoman sultan pushes forth a massive reform called ‘The Tanzimat Reform’, in which several aspects of the Turkish society and Government are altered in some way. Radical changes take place, from the institution of paper money, to the outlawing of the Turban, all changes that carry large amounts of controversy, especially within the more conservative circles of Ottoman society. Despite controversy, it can be safely argued the changes not only improved the economics of the Empire, but also made it a more just place, with higher religious freedom and opportunity. More consequences and reforms are expected in the near future.

- The Swiss Government initiated several reforms, mainly related to economic improvement. They lower the tariff prices for machinery, increase investment into each Canton and create a Federally Run State bank, whose main objective is to help small businesses and the general populace.

- Military reforms were also carried out in Switzerland, where thousands of other soldiers were recruited, and armed with new rifles, of a class the swiss government has refused to give all and any information on, even going though ridiculous extents to keep it a secret. New training reforms were also executed.

- Famous Prussian Architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel moved to Geneve at the invite of the Swiss Government, where he is expected to work on some new project soon, though which project is unknown.

- On the stranger side, the Swiss government reduced the price of arms importation, relaxed the gun ownership laws and set up state-sanctioned gun clubs, that have now become quite popular with the Swiss population.

- After the diplomatic blunder involving Portugal, Spain drops all the aggressive intentions and focuses in internal development, expanding coal mines in the north of Spain. They also spend a substantial amount of money in Trade subsidies to the South American Nations who signed the treaty of Panama.

- Spain makes a small expansion to their Navy, building up new ships.

- Following the Treaty of Panama, wide unhappiness with the government is shown all over the country, due to the treaty of Panama and the Portuguese Blunder, people no longer see the spanish government with good eyes, to the point a newspaper made the following comment on the spanish government: “If the Turkish Sultanate is the sick man of Europe, then spain is the dead and buried one!”

- The British Prime Minister, Lord Wellington, orders a huge military & naval expansion, composed of recruiting thousands of new soldiers, and building more 50 ships to the glorious british navy.

- Prime Minister Wellington then goes in a tour of England, with the intention of rallying his nation against the Miguelist threat and their Spanish allies, giving speeches everywhere, from the House of Parliament, to the Docks of Southampton, and all times supported by great propaganda devices, with overloads of Union Jacks draping from all possible locations and a constant playing of Rule Britannia by large orchestras. The Propaganda worked so effectively that Wellington managed to make the intervention in Portugal from a ‘indiferent war’ to an important show of British Pride.
- Following the Naval expansion, a large British Task Force leaves for Portugal, under the blessings of the Prime Minister himself. They travel down the sea to the Azores, where the Liberal armies loyal to Maria are stationed in, and together, both navies move on the Portuguese mainland. Before arriving in the Portuguese coastline, they are intercepted by the Miguelist fleet, that was unaware of the british presence in that area, and as a result, the Miguelist fleet suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Allied forces, who lost very few boats themselves. After the victory, the fleets moved to the city of Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, and are now blockading the city, awaiting for the best opportunity to storm it.

- Denmark begins a large economic reform, intending to expand industry in the Danish territory and use it to refine the goods coming from their african and caribbean colonies. They are successful and the first factories open up in Copenhagen and in other Danish urban centres.

- The Danish government also launched a large propaganda campaign, with the intention of Glorifying all the things Danish, from art to politics, as long as it would promote Denmark and its government. The action is successful, increasing the Danish pride within most citizens.

- In France, feeling that the influence of the press is too high, the King orders a new measure of Censorship, that is refused outright by the Chamber of Deputies, who in retaliation issue a vote of no confidence on the king. Enraged by their actions, the King dissolves the National Assembly and dismisses all their members. This leads to outrage on several classes of society, sparking massive riots in Paris, and things only got worse from there. Following a huge protest before the Tuileries palace, the Palace Guards open fire on the crowd of Protesters, killing many of them and injuring several others. This small action sparks a huge outcome, throwing the entire city of Paris in revolt, as thousands of men and women raid Les Invalides and arm themselves with the looted weapons. They then set up barricades and defensive positions in the main streets, preventing much movement. The King and his court manage to escape the city just in time and settle in the Palace of Versailles, where they now hold temporary court.

- Following the Parisian ordeal, similar riots take place all over france in all major urban centres, with larger revolts of similar type taking place in Lyon, Reims and Nantes. Another large rebellion takes place in Marseille, but is put down by the local army garrisons.

- Due to the large unrest, the minister of war takes a important decision and orders French Foreign Troop movements to be cancelled and put on hold until the situation at home can be solved. Without the consent of the King.

- A large meeting of German states in the imperial capital of Vienna is held to discuss trade and general economic consent. After a large campaign, and several promises, the Austrians fuse with the Bavarian-Wurtenburgian to form a new and more powerful trading bloc, and also invite other German states such as Saxony and Hesse-Kassel to join, who wholeheartedly accept. The Austrians also take this opportunity to erase the custom barriers found within its territory, helping internal trade.

- Austria carries out several military reforms, unifying the ranks between the Austrian and the Hungarian regiments of the army, and instituting new training conducts.

- Following a papal visit to the Austrian Empire, a new intellectual movement is born in the salons of Vienna and Prague. The movement mainly consists of the argument that church and religious belief unifies the people of the world more than National identity divides them, which falls like a glove within the highly diverse empire. The movement has its own opposition, yet, it continues to flourish in Austria, and is already spreading over to Italy and the German States.

- Perhaps inspired by the new movement, the Emperor issues a decree, implementing a unified Passport for all the Imperial citizens, despite ethnicity and place of birth.

- Sweden and Russia sign the Treaty of Visby, ensuring neutrality between the two nations and larger rights for the lutheran minorities in Finland. The Swedish government uses this action to show how peaceful it is to the world, and ensures that all their population feels the same way.

- The Swedish king orders a sequence of several investments into several areas of the Swedish economy, by supporting their long land reform, expanding and modernizing the mine of Falun and even creating a subsidy fund for buying machinery to set up new industry. A very wise action that proves to have a good economic outcome for Sweden.
- Using British imported equipment, the Swedish Government starts the construction of a ambitious railway project connecting the city of Christiania and Gothenburg.

- Sweden adopts the use of the same type of flag and coat of arms for both Swedish and Norwegian territory.

- The Swedish and the Danish Governments announce a joint naval expedition to the island of Jan Mayen, composed of a large troop of scientists and geographers. The fleet of ships left Copenhagen and it en route to the isle, where it is expected to stop in the Faroe isle on the way to gather more scientific evidence.
Americas
Image
- Following the defeat at Mexico in 1829, Spain decides to open up relations with the Latin American Nations, and together they all sign the treaty of Panama, in which Spain not only recognises all of them as independent nations, but also open up trade relations with them. This is seen as a humiliating defeat in the eyes of the Spanish upper class, but a great victory for the American peoples, with most countries seeing a brief revival of Bolivarian Nationalistic fever. that engulfed the continent when they declared their independence several years ago, yet all the celebration is cut very quickly.

- President Jackson commissions and expedition to the Oregon Territory to chart the area and claim it for the US Government. The expedition was put under the command of Army Captain George Crowe, who departed the border town of Independence, Missouri for the western territories with a large party of Soldiers and trackers.

- 5 new ships were built and put to sea in Boston by the US Navy. What makes these ships stand out is their hull design, constructed with the same hull design of the USS Constitution, using extra layers of white oak, making it much harder for canon balls to push through the wooden structure.

- New Forts and coastal batteries were built to protect the harbours of Boston and New York City.

- A new investment was made into improving infrastructure in the american west, building new roads and bridges, and improving the living conditions in frontier towns, boosting slightly the local trade.

- Over the beginning of the year, US congress debated and passed two new acts, the first, the Maysville Road Act, which drives the US government to buy shares of road building companies in order to use their services in the expansion of the US road system, especially in the west. And the second and most controversial act is the Indian Removal act, which presses the Government to drive the Indians out of their lands in Georgia and in the Florida Territory and drive them to reservations, so their land can be used by the populace. Both acts now await approval by the President, so they can be put to action.

- Emperor Pedro of Brazil decides to take action in countering the crisis attacking his legitimacy. He orders several military reforms, making investments into the quality of the military, such as buying new equipment, instituting new training codes and contracting new officers, many of them mercenaries and veterans from the Napoleonic wars, to train the men. Such actions boost his popularity with the army once again, that had been lost after the military defeat in Uruguay.

- The Brazilian government starts assisting struggling coffee plantations with subsidies in order to maintain a good flow of production. The action is mostly successful, and a small boost to agriculture is seen. The Emperor himself also starts advocating for large landowners to rely more in the hiring paid workers rather than using the slave force, not a surprising action coming from Pedro, a known abolicionist. Such pleas, however, fall on deaf ears.

- The Government also issues a more regulated education curriculum, and with the help of the catholic church, sets out to educate the Brazilian population as much as possible, including teaching the poorest of Brazilian society in how to read and write. A very noble intention, yet, hard to accomplish, taking in consideration the sheer size of Brazil, and its small development.

- The biggest news in Brazil, however, is the new Taxation laws. The Emperor, with the intention of solving an old problem, influences his allies in the National Assembly to propose a new taxation law, giving the poorer farmers of Brazil a bigger chance to profit in the agricultural sector by balancing the prices between the Brazilian-made products and the ones imported from the neighbouring nations of Uruguay and Argentina, that previously had a huge difference. The discussions are fierce, and with the bill being very popular with the population, it is expected to pass, however, it is blocked by the conservative members of the Senate, who claim such a law would make the economic power of the South of Brazil unbalanced compared to the other regions. Their decision is followed by public outrage from the lower classes, and from the executive cabinet of the Emperor, who advise the emperor to close down the national Assembly, a power given to him by the constitution of 1824.

- The Danish Government launches a campaign to drive more settlers to move to the Danish West Indies. The action works to an extent, with a few hundred new settlers moving to the isles, but not causing any significant change other than a small economic boost.

- Following unrest, a widespread dissatisfaction with his government, Simon Bolivar renounces the Presidency of Gran Colombia, yet, he uses the small amount of power he has left and convinces congress to elect his ally, Domingo Caycedo, to the presidency.

- Caycedo’s first action is to declare the decision by the local venezuelan authorities to leave Gran Colombia a illegitimate movement and declares all the ones responsible for it as rebels, especially José Antonio Páez, the leader of the venezuelan separatists. The Colombian Government then moves several units into the territory of venezuela, that is now in open revolt led by Páez.

- Several units from the gran Colombian army that were recruited in Venezuela mutiny and desert to the venezuelan lines.

- Despite his actions to maintain Ecuador within the Union, Caycedo receives terrible news. In a similar fashion to Venezuela, the Ecuadorian elites and local governors send a large petition to Bogotá, demanding that Ecuador be set free as its own country. In the document, they state that they demand their independence, and will take up arms to defend their ‘sacred right’ to freedom if necessary.
Africa

Image
- The Dutch start expanding their african colony in the Gold Coast, by sending civilians to the borders to expand the colonial limits, the action fails as no escort is given to them, and most are killed by local Ashanti Tribes, or by other harms of the environment.

- The Danish government makes an effort to bring more settlers to the Danish African territories, which proves unsuccessful despite government subsidy to the fact most people feel the land is too wild and too unsafe to live in.
Asia

Image
- The Chinese Government begins a full scale reform, that unofficially became known as ‘The thousand and one changes’, joking with the sheer size and scale of these reforms. Said reforms cover all the areas, from anti-opium policy, to military training, to new tax laws to the institution of a postal delivery network, all very complex and expensive changes, that drove the empire into great debt. Due to the large amount of detail, and the amount of the treasury invested, most actions prove to be very successful, though the gross amount of economic change will come with time.

- The chinese government expanded its navy, building 40 new ships for their fleet.

- Despite the anti-Opium laws, there is a surprising increase of Opium contraband into China, coming from unknown sources.

- A Russian Military expedition is launched from Yekaterinburg, with the objective of chartering the wild steppes of Central Asia, and to establish a permanent Russian presence in the Region. Several civilians and peasants follow the army, who settle in the newly chartered lands, building the first villages and farms.

- From Dutch Indonesia two expeditions are launched, one, with the objective of establishing contact with the Indigenous population of Brunei, and establishing trade, and the other, with Cambodia as a destination, also with commercial intentions. Despite the economic objective, several Scientists and geographers accompany both missions, to record new findings.

- Dutch settlers arrive in the Pulau isles in Indonesia, building the first settlements and successfully claiming the land for the Dutch Crown.
