-A young daughter is born to King Ferdinand VII. It is rumored that the king was seriously considering promulgating a change in the Kingdom's Salic succession laws but had to delay this on the eve of the Crisis in Portugal. By which time, advisers close to the King and Don Carlos, the heir to the throne, were able to convince the ailing King that doing so will only put the vulnerable girl in the hands of ambitious liberals. Further illness prevents the King from vacillating further.
