The Aftermath of BLACK SEPTEMBER

Image
Palestinian fedayeen, defiant as always.

News continue to pour in describing the heavy blow dealt to the Palestinian cause by their supposed brethren. As if not the Zionist onslaught was enough! No matter, the heroes of the Palestine Liberation Organization and their allies, despite international claims surely unaided in their struggle by Syrian soldiers, will no doubt remain triumphant despite the treachery of the King. Whether it is South Lebanon or anywhere else in the Arab world to where they must flee, Libya will always remain a supporter of Palestine's freedom fighters.

When asked to comment on the the matter, Colonel Gaddafi's office could not be reached. Comrade Abdessalam Jalloud, the Minister of Finance, has informed us that his friend and comrade remains in deep mourning after the 1 October 1970 funeral of our Father, Gamal Abdel Nasser, during which the Colonel fainted twice out of sheer sorrow. Only time will tell his reaction to Black September and its immediate aftermath.

Rest in peace, oh Nasser, Father of All Arabs!

The Colonel Embraces REFUGEES

Image
A brief speech, broadcast to millions.

Following a surprisingly brief speech --- perhaps moderated by Comrade Castro's recent multi-hour one in Tripoli --- Colonel Muammar Gaddafi issued the following communique.

Communique on REFUGEES and TAPZs

The Arabs are welcoming, and warm hosts. So shall the Libyan Arab Republic be. The capitalist-imperialist-colonialist-zionist world cannot manage the massive amounts of people fleeing their homelands, and so we must do our part, small as it may be.

The TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS PROTECTION ZONES shall be time-limited, operating under a two-year charter, renewable by the grace of God and the mutual consent of the Arab Socialist Union and the Zone's administration. They shall be extraterritorial units, a home away from home, for the oppressed peoples of the world. The autonomous leadership shall be appointed by the ASU and the diaspora communities, and maintain their own cultural societies and their own discipline, although still subject to the almighty will of Libyan Law and the 1969 Revolutionary Constitution.

As a trial of this system, the following communities are hereby invited to form their own TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS PROTECTION ZONES in the vicinity of the City of Benghazi, where they will be granted compounds and facilities fitting their purposes, in addition to being issued temporary travel passports by the Libyan Arab Republic:
  • The BENGALI people (Represented by the Bengali-Libyan Friendship Association)
  • The CABINDAN people (Represented by the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda)
  • The PALESTINIAN people (Represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization)
  • The SAHRAWI people (Represented by the Embryonic Movement for the Liberation of the Sahara)
  • The QUÉBÉCOIS people (Represented by the Quebec Liberation Front)
To be the will of the Libyan People, as announced by Colonel Gaddafi!

Movie Night with the Colonel

1971 in Film, Reviewed

Top 10 Films of 1971, USA Box Office
  • Fiddler on the Roof --- Released 3 November 1971, directed by Norman Jewison. Colonel's Commentary: Although beautifully arranged in terms of music, bringing a tear to my eye, the positive depiction of Zionist politics is morally abhorrent, and renders the movie in effect unwatchable. I give it ONE Stars and Crescents out of five:
  • The French Connection --- Released 9 October 1971, directed by William Friedkin. Colonel's Commentary: A scathing critique of French narco-imperialism, through which France and its agents --- here represented by "Frog One", Alain Charnier --- seek to destroy the Blacks of America via heroin. I give it FOUR Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪ ☪ ☪
  • Diamonds Are Forever --- Released 14 December 1971, directed by Guy Hamilton. Colonel's Commentary: Another James Bond adventure, starring the excellent Scotsman Sean Connery and the beautiful Jill St. John. Although I did enjoy the action sequences, the praise of the Anglo-American imperialist complex darkens the whole thing. I give it TWO Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪
  • Dirty Harry --- Released 23 December 1971, directed by Don Siegel. Colonel's Commentary: Little more than trash, and not recommended. This movie's cult of the white American policeman, enacting the utmost violence on the citizenry, made me physically ill. I am, however, impressed by the Smith & Wesson Model 29, and must acquire one. I give it ONE Stars and Crescents out of five:
  • Billy Jack --- Released on 1 May 1971, directed by T. C. Frank. Colonel's Commentary: A masterpiece showcasing the struggles of the the Navajo military veteran Billy Jack, a master of Korean martial arts, who defends the racial underclass of his town against the corrupt authorities with force. I give it FIVE Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪ ☪ ☪ ☪
  • Summer of '42 --- Released on 18 April 1971, directed by Robert Mulligan. Colonel's Commentary: It is set in the summer of 1942. Did you know I was born in 1942? I was! In a tent, in the desert, to a clan of herdsmen. That part of the movie is excellent. Otherwise, it violates even the most basic principles of sexual morality. I give it THREE Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪ ☪
  • The Last Picture Show --- Released on 22 October 1971, directed by Peter Bogdanovich. Colonel's Commentary: Although a movie of little cinematic value, and of questionable sexual morality just as many other American films, it does succeed in making the viewer rather saddened. I give it TWO Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪
  • Carnal Knowledge --- Released on 30 June 1971, directed by Mike Nichols. Colonel's Commentary: Although on the surface little more than yet another film celebrating noting but crude American sexual decadence, the comedy is in fact a brilliant exposé of the utter banality of the same. I give it FOUR Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪ ☪ ☪
  • A Clockwork Orange --- Released on 19 December 1971, directed by Stanley Kubrick. Colonel's Commentary: A movie, which although macabre and disgusting, showcases the true depravity of British society like none before it. This will be mandatory viewing in all Libyan schools from now on. I give it FIVE Stars and Crescents out of five: ☪ ☪ ☪ ☪ ☪
  • Bedknobs and Broomsticks --- Released on 7 October 1971, directed by Robert Stevenson. Colonel's Commentary: Little more than a knock-off of the modern classic Mary Poppins (1964), and one which both portrays blasphemous witchcraft as more positive and contains more Nazis than the original, to boot. Damn you, Disney. I give it ONE Stars and Crescents out of five:

A relaxed Colonel Gaddafi.

  • ... Coup Attempt Foiled in Tripoli!

Major Khalifa Haftar of the Libyan Army, speaking to Al-Thawra on Wednesday, announced the capture of several Libyan citizens, acting as agents for foreign powers. The Major, condemning the likely involvement of Zionist saboteurs, described the arrest of at least five individuals the day before, in whose possession were found documents indicating their will to overthrow the Libyan Arab Republic and return our oil wealth to the control of the Franco-British imperialist complex.

The plot, which may have been orchestrated with the consent of the former autocrat Idris from his seat of foreign exile, comes not long after the old tyrant was sentenced by the Libyan People's Court to death in absentia for his acts of corruption and treason earlier this month.

Colonel Gaddafi himself appears to have been unfazed by all this, heroically commenting to Al-Thawra: "For them it was a putsch. For me, it was Tuesday."

President Tombalbaye, listening in from Fort-Lamy.

  • ... Chadian Peace in Our Time!

As the various Chadian representatives --- Foreign Minister Mahamat Saleh Baba Hasane, Prefect Habré, Colonel Malloum, and a flurry of rebel commanders --- departed the successful Tripoli Peace Summit, Colonel Gaddafi took the opportunity to ask President Mobutu of Zaire and President Nimeiry of Sudan to remain behind for a moment. The photographs taken of this momentous meeting of three supreme heads of states, the foremost heads of the New African Renaissance, are to be kept on display at the National Archives of Libya. Next time, surely, President Tombalbaye will also be in attendance, as an equal brother.

Jacques Lanctôt, political refugee

  • ...Quebec Lives in Our Hearts!

After making an appearance at the unveiling ceremony for the Monument to the Martyrs of '68 in Damascus, the Libyan Ambassador to Syria held a brief press conference on Thursday in Benghazi alongside a member of the Front de libération du Québec. The Quebecer freedom fighter and political refugee, Jacques Lanctôt, who in 1970 was charged with the attempted kidnapping of an Israeli diplomat, read a statement condemning the French collaboration with the Zionist occupation forces, and their abandonment of the French-speakers of Canada. "Le Connétable is spinning in his grave", M. Lanctôt said to the Libyan press.

Libya Announces New Atomic DOCTRINES OF WAR

Image
Tajura/Tagiura, the heart of the Libyan Atomic Energy Project, can be seen just east of Tripoli.

Recent Franco-Anglo-Zionist attempts to overthrow the Libyan Arab Republic, via the insertion of monarchist bandits into our midst, provide a troubling warning for the future. It is clear that the enemy will stop at nothing to eradicate the good fortunes of the Arab people. In addition to this, we have much to learn from the historical war doctrines of foreign powers. The experiences of previous American, Italian and German infringements upon Libyan sovereignty, especially what was witnessed during the air and sea war of the Siege of Tobruk in 1941, showed us much on a local basis. As have subsequent events of the so-called "Cold War" abroad, which all too often is scorching hot, like the desert itself. The past two years have things even more clear, in fact. The papers released in 1970 by The New York Times, revealing extensive, secret aerial bombardment campaigns by the United States against the neutral states of Laos and Cambodia, and coastal raids in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam far beyond the DMZ, showed that the imperialist forces will use all tools at its disposal to neutralize perceived threats. Currently, the frantic warfare of the Indian Subcontinent where both sides of the conflict, both the Indian invaders and the Chinese defenders, have made use of air power on a level not seen before, hammers in the point that certain defences are of the utmost importance.

Keep in mind, also, the most obvious of all foul deeds: The Zionist attacks of the "Six-Day War". Remember the Sinai Air Strike of 5 June 1967, when the Zionists launched a rain of fire upon the Egyptian Air Force, destroying 450 aircrafts and disabling 18 airfields. A significant reason for the monstrous effects of this unprovoked attack was how unprepared the local forces were for such a knife in the back: Hardened aircraft shelters had not yet been built, defensive infrastructure was poor, and the radar systems proved inadequate. The Israelis also launched combat diver attacks on Alexandria Harbour, using naval commandos to sink a minesweeper before being taken prisoner by the valiant Arab forces, as well as making other naval assaults during the war.

Finally, remember that the Zionist dogs maintain unlawful and horrendous nuclear weapons, which they have worked on ever since the days of David Ben-Gurion, a madman obsessed with atomic destruction. Israel has consistently refused to allow international inspectors and will not sign the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, unlike Libya, which --- alongside most Arab states --- is dedicated to avoiding an atomic apocalypse, and to the peaceful usage of atomic energy.

All in all, the following is clear:
  • The Imperialists are consistently inclined to use their aerial and naval supremacy, and their willingness to destroy all threats, to attack any sovereign nation deemed uncooperative.
  • The Zionists are willing and able to launch aerial and naval attacks to eliminate both Arab lives and assets, which unless precautions are made poses significant risks.
  • The Arabs have nothing to gain from attaining nuclear weapons, as it is haram and will only speed up the annihilation of all of God's creatures, whereas the Arabs also have everything to gain from opposing the Zionist nuclear weapons.
With all this in mind, the Libyan Arab Republic will initiate the following two projects, which will be pursued over the coming months:

Fortress Tajura

The FORTRESS TAJURA Project, designed by Colonel Gaddafi, is an effort by the Libyan Armed Forces to make the town of Tajura, 14 kilometres east of Tripoli on the Mediterranean Coast, a truly impregnable fortress, the walls of which the Zionists shall bloody themselves against.

Tajura is since 1971 the heart of the Libyan nuclear research and atomic energy production industry, with work on a reactor there likely to be finished with Sino-Soviet technical assistance in late 1972. The Tajura Reactor is designed to not only provide Libya with power, making the country more and more self-sufficient and non-reliant on domestic oil production, but will also ensure extensive desalination, to deal with the ongoing North African drought cycle. It will be an immense humanitarian boon to not only the Libyan people, but to all of the Arabs. It is clear that it must be defended against surprise attacks by Israel.

The following defensive measures will be undertaken, among others:
  • The construction of extensive fortifications for Libyan Armed Forces personnel, including blast shelters designed to withstand so-called "bunker busters" and underground communication systems.
  • The construction of extensive fortifications for the Libyan Air Force, including hardened aircraft shelters and limited numbers of underground hangars, as well as the modification of local roads into allowing highway landing strips.
  • The construction of extensive fortifications for the Libyan Air Defence Forces, including massive surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft gun networks, and modern radar systems.
  • The construction of extensive fortifications for the Libyan Navy, including anti-frogman measures, coastal artillery, and new combat crafts.
  • The construction of extensive fortifications for the Libyan civilian populace, including air raid shelters and warning systems across the town of Tajura and the several new emergency hospital facilities.
  • The construction of extensive fortifications for the Tajura Reactor itself, which other than substantial networks of walls, fences and defensive positions, will be of an undisclosed nature.

Pan-Arab Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone

With the establishment of the ARAB COMMONWEALTH, Colonel Gaddafi has announced that he will be pursuing not only pan-Arab cooperation on atomic energy matters, but also the establishment of a PAN-ARAB NUCLEAR WEAPONS-FREE ZONE. Inspired by the excellent 1969 Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean, through which the entirety of the non-Canadian and non-USA Americas have freed themselves of armed nuclear imperialism, the Arab World too shall rid itself of any pretenses towards nuclear weapons. The Arab World shall stand DEFIANT against Atomic Zionism and its evils. Although we are David in our battle against the Franco-Anglo-Sino-Indo-Jewish Goliath, the rock which we sling upon them shall not be a radioactive one. Only by the peaceful pursuit of atomic energy and a fierce rejection of nuclear weapons will the Arab World stand proud as the moral victors of the Middle East.

REGIONAL COOPERATION: Libya Seeks OMVS Observer Position

Image
Fishermen on the Senegalese side of the River.

Scientists at the University of Libya have grown more and more concerned with the increasing indications of upcoming drought across the Saharan and Sahelian regions, Comrade-Minister Abdessalam Jalloud announced at a press conference in Tripoli earlier today. Dwindling rainfall has been noted since the 1960s, following a consistently wet 1950s, but the data shows that this will increase severely over the next few years. At the present, Comrade-Minister Jalloud said, the Libyan Arab Republic have already undertaken several efforts to aid the both the Libyan population in finding off the feared water crisis, and our neighbours as well. Examples of this includes the construction of the atomic desalination plant currently ongoing at the Tajura Reactor, the signing of the Chadian-Libyan Scientific Agreement which seeks to aid the study of several key aspects of Chad's Saharan-Sahelian environment, and the recent deployment of Libyan engineers to the Democratic Republic of Sudan, where significant issues with the Khashm al Qirbah Dam are being tackled. This is however not enough, Jalloud stated, before announcing a few ambitious plans.

Foremost among the immediately upcoming measures will be Libyan attendance at the upcoming March 11th summit in Noukachott, Mauritania, where diplomats and scientists from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Republic of Mali, and the Republic of Senegal will be in attendance. Hydrologists and others from the University of Libya have requested permission to attend. It is known that the three brother-states, Mauritania, Mali and Senegal, intend to reform themselves into a new international organisation, the Senegal River Basin Development Authority (Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Sénégal, OMVS), for the purpose of establishing a joint management of the vast Senegal River and its drainage basin. Prior attempts at this have been dissolved due to political complications, such as the 1963 "Senegal River Riparian States Organization", but it is believed by many that the upcoming OMVS will succeed where others have failed, with the three-pronged goals to "promote self-sufficiency in food security, to improve the income of the local populations, and to preserve the natural ecosystems". According to Comrade-Minister Jalloud, the Libyan Arab Republic intends to seek a position as an observer state to the OMVS, should negotiations be successful, despite not being a country situated on the Senegal River. "The Senegal River has been described by Arab scholars for a thousand years", Jalloud said, "since al-Masudi of Baghdad in 957, al-Bakri of Andalusia in 1068, and al-Idrisi of Sicily in 1154. We seek to continue this tradition, hoping to both learn from the efforts of Mauritania, Mali and Senegal in water management, and to contribute our own viewpoints on the issue."

In addition to that, the Comrade-Minister ended, there are well-developed plans for future Libyan work with desalination plants, and Colonel Gaddafi himself is engaged in negotiations with the upcoming Arab Commonwealth, with the Democratic Republic of Sudan, and other Arab countries, in how to the threat of regional drought.
