1972 Cyprus Agreement

Referendum:
-A referendum on the future of the Republic of Cyprus will be held in December 1972. All adult citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, Greek or Turkish, will be allowed to vote in it.
-The referendum will ask the following question: "Out of the following three choices, what future status of the Republic of Cyprus do you support?"
-The following options will be given:
1. Union with Greece
2. Partition between Greece and Turkey
3. The status quo
-The option with a simple majority will be considered the winner. If no simple majority arises, a run off will be held between the two most popular choices.
-If the status quo option wins, the 1960 constitution will be reinforced. Talks for greater autonomy for the Turkish Cypriot community will also start.
-UNFICYP will observe the election, ensuring security and fairness.
-The Cypriot, Greek, Turkish, and British government will respect the voting process and results.
Turkish Cypriot Repatriation:
-The Turkish Cypriots who fled their homes during the Cyprus crisis of 1955-64 will be allowed to return.
We invite the Republic of Cyprus, Hellenic Republic, and the Republic of Turkey to sign this agreement

A magnificent step in the right direction to a world where self-determination is key, and something the United Nations could have never accomplished, as such, we will gladly sign this agreement.

Libyan Arab Republic
Two things, gentlemen.
First of all, Libya applauds the British Government for its willingness to help heal the Cypriot island.
Secondly, we ask what will become of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, the last British colonies of the region.

We ask that the Libyan delegate refrain from the mischaracterizing the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. As recognized by the United Nations, the island of Cyprus' status as a Crown colony ended in 1960.
There are currently no plans to change the status of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

No need to be hostile, unless you have something to hide. The Sovereign Bases are clearly colonial leftovers, although perhaps benign ones, and we question why their status is not up for debate considering that some of the future scenarios proposed might entail their removal.

You are grossly misinformed. During the years of negotiations between the Turkish and Greek Cypriots, the status of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia has never been debated. These supposed "future scenarios" are a fever dream on your part.
If the Libyan delegate wishes to pontificate further, we ask they do so somewhere else.

We applaud the willingness of the United Kingdom to lend their support in solving this issue.
Further, the status of the British bases are, as has been pointed out, not in dispute, and are thus irrelevant for the time being. If the Cypriot people suddenly protest the existence of these bases, then that's a different matter entirely- but we believe that the issue should be dropped.
