Middle East Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone Agreement

Concerned by growing levels of nuclear proliferation and tensions between world powers,

Noting the ill effects of nuclear attacks and tests around the world and desiring to curtail their effects on the Middle East,

(i) any non-nuclear-weapon State unless subject to the safeguards required by Article III.1 of the NPT, or
(ii) any nuclear-weapon State unless subject to applicable safeguards agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Any such provisions shall be in accordance with strict non-proliferation measures to provide assurance of exclusively peaceful non-explosive use;

(b) to support the continued effectiveness of the international non-proliferation system based on the NPT and the IAEA safeguards system.

Article IV. Each Party undertakes to prevent in its territory the stationing of any nuclear explosive device or other type of radioactive weaponry.

Seeking to go further still than the spirit and contents of the NPT, in consultation with our Middle Eastern neighbours we have decided to commit ourselves to peaceful use of this technology only - and to encourage an atmosphere of stability without the threat of atomic destruction. Iraq signs.
