It is a great day for our people, when nations once scarred by colonialism and strife can rise as brothers. Whether we speak of ujamaa or humanism, in English, Bemba, or Swahili, we speak with one voice when we say that ours is but the first step of a long journey towards a free, united Africa.
Signed,

ABEID KARUME
Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, President and Father of the Nation of Zanzibar
