As a gesture of good faith towards the League, orders have been given to withdraw the Royal Navy squadrons in the Baltic Sea and cease contraband patrols there. It is clear how these operations so close to the Baltic coasts could be seen as provocative, despite their legal basis under the laws and customs of the sea.

The French Republic welcomes this development as a victory for neutrality and freedom of the seas from the feigned superiority of the British navy. Long may it last, and trade continue to flow in peace and security.

Not that it has flowed to the ports of France since the start of the war, of course.

Though severing France from her every friend and trading partner around the world may be the dearest ambition of the British state, we wish to ease the concerns of the nations of the world that for all her bluster, Britain does not have such an overarching influence - however dearly they may pray otherwise.

They ask, that in light of diplomatic discussions between the French Republic and His Majesty the King of Prussia pertaining to diplomatic occurrences of late, that His Majesty request that his Minister of Foreign Affairs hasten to make contact with the French Minister to Prussia for the successful and swift conclusion of the convention presently proposed between our two nations, in order that we might better preserve the faithful and good relations between us.

The nation of France eagerly awaits your reply, and shall anticipate its positive demeanour as emblematic of the respect and good faith our diplomats have, at every stage, demonstrated towards each other.
