Ottoman-Swedish Agreement
His Imperial Majesty, Sultan Mustafa bin Abdul Hamid, Sovereign of the Sublime House of Osman, and His Excellency Carl Johan Adlercreutz, Regent of Sweden-Finland and Custodian of the Realm, have via envoy agreed upon this agreement, to further facilitate peaceful exchange between the Sublime Porte and the Throne of the North.
- The Swedish Levant Company (SLC), dissolved in 1756, shall be revived by the Swedish Crown and be granted a renewed, exclusive royal charter do to trade with the Eastern Mediterranean and the Ottoman lands. All funding for this shall be provided by the Swedish Crown, for mutual benefit. The Ottoman Empire shall grant the SLC the right to carry out free commerce within its borders, albeit with some slight taxes and tariffs to be determined mutually at a later stage, otherwise unmolested by Ottoman authorities (with the exception that Ottoman authorities shall reserve the right to search its warehouses and ships for contraband when necessary).
- The Swedish Palace in Istanbul, purchased in 1757 and expanded in 1787, is to be raised to the status of Embassy. Herr Carl Gustaf König, the current Swedish chargé d’affaires in Instanbul, is to present his credentials once more to the Sultan and be raised to the title of Ambassador.
- A first Ottoman Consul to Sweden-Finland shall be appointed by the Sultan, at a time of his choosing, and be granted the use of a small palatial property in Central Stockholm for use as a Consulate. The staff of the Consulate shall, as the Swedish diplomats in Istanbul already are, given the freedom to conduct their private religious faith whichever way they please without state infringement, in accordance with the Free Charter granted by King Charles XII in the beginning of the 18th century to the Turks in his employ, and the Tolerance Act of 1781.
- The Ottoman Sultan shall undertake to enforce compliance with the Swedish Levant Company's freedom of movement in the Mediterranean, especially along the Barbary Coast and in places such as the Ottoman Eyalet of Tripolitania, so that no ships showing Swedish colours be harassed by raiders. Any crewmen, officers or civilians of Swedish citizenship captured and enslaved by raiders with allegiances towards the Sultan, prior to the signing of this treaty and evermore afterwards, is to be immediately released upon the request of the Swedish Consul.
- The post-humous book of Herr Fredrik Hasselquist (Iter Palestinum eller Resa till det heliga landet), containing much information on the flora and fauna of the Ottoman Levant previously undocumented in the local tongues, shall be published in Istanbul in a new, Arabic-language translation, at the expense of the Swedish Crown. Ottoman authorities shall take the utmost effort to attempt to localise the physical remains of Herr Hasselquist (1722-1752), whose unmarked grave in the cemetery of the European Quarter in Buca (İzmir Province) should be possible to find using local knowledge, and repatriate them to his native Sweden.
