This year marks the 28th anniversary of the Chinese government’s violent suppression of a peaceful protest that took place in and around Tiananmen Square.

We call again on China to make a full accounting of those killed, detained, or missing due to the events of June 4, 1989. We urge China to cease harassment of family members seeking redress and to release from prison those who have been jailed for striving to keep the memory of Tiananmen Square alive.

The United States views the protection of human rights as a fundamental duty of all countries, and we urge the Chinese government to respect the universal rights and fundamental freedoms of all its citizens.

Li Minqi, Ambassador to the United States of America
People's Republic of China
I wish to respectfully remind the American government that the June Fourth Incident transpired under the rule of the now-dissolved Communist Party of China, which at the time was led by a clique of Dengist revisionists. As point of fact, many members of the present Politburo Standing Committee of the Red Flag Movement, including former Chairman Kong Qingdong, were participants in the action against the hegemonic bureaucracy of the capitalist roader/Khruschevite alliance in the former government.

The American government may therefore rest assured that the appropriate steps have long since been taken to reprimand those who enacted overly-harsh measures in defense of the People's Republic. Of course, such a statement is made on the assumption that the call for action in defense of human rights was iterated in good faith by an imperialist government, and by no means should be considered binding in light of previous and present interference with sovereign nations on part of the United States in the very name of "human rights".
