As the undisputed leader of the OAU, we - Canary Islands Independence Movement - asks for the recognition of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and thus through that of the Organisation of African Unity, of our status as a legitimate African national liberation movement.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo thanks the Canary Islands Independence Movement, led by Antonio Cubillo, for their message and we look sympathetically towards his countrymen. However, such a move as he asks is not within the power of President Mobutu to make upon the OAU's behalf - as the Committee of Nine, or Coordinating Committee for the Liberation of Africa, is strictly speaking the responsible body. President Mobutu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are indeed among those on that committee.
We would therefore invite MPAIAC to send a delegation to the next meeting of the OAU, and shall raise the subject at the next meeting of the Committee of Nine. Given the emergency situation across the world regarding the alien threat, we trust monsieur Antonio Cubillo recognises that the DRC, and OAU as a whole, has many pressing matters to contend with; but I am sure he also recognises that the islanders of the Canaries, as fellow Africans, are also a pressing matter to the OAU, and at the heart of the reasons for our organisation's existence.
