[SENATE] Constitutional Amendment to Enact Women's Suffrage

Esteemed members of the Chamber, there has been much talk in recent days of the nature of our democratic system that we employ here in Brazil. You need only speak to one of our fair Leftist colleagues to hear at length about the injustices inherent within our governance that they wish to correct.
Sadly, we cannot make as radical changes as they might wish without endangering the society we so cherish. But we can make some changes to correct our more egregious injustices, and that is why I am here now.
There has been much made of the subject of Women's Suffrage in the recent months, both on initiative by numerous organizations within our nation and in the historical precedents set by the rest of the world. It behooves us to act, to expand our democracy to include that portion of our population which has been neglected so far, to heed the concerns of such prestiged individuals who have taken up their cause. As such, I am pleased to present this proposed Amendment to the Constitution to the Chamber.

Whereas the cause of Women's Suffrage has garnered an increasing amount of public support from all segments of Brazilian society,
Whereas Women's Suffrage has become an increasingly embraced idea by the democratic world since the end of the First World War, including in Britain and the United States,
Whereas the law of Rio Grande do Note has allowed women to vote since 1926,
- Section One. The Constitution will be amended to include a new clause in the relevant section. "Women are to be granted the right to vote in equal status and condition with men across the entirety of Brazil."
- Section Two. The Brazilian federal government will begin efforts to enroll as much of the female population as possible in preparation for the upcoming elections
- Section Three. This amendment will take effect immediately upon passage.
