World News Turn 1 Jan-March 1949

Europe
In response to continued Russian isolation the UED have formed a deeper set of defenses along the boarder with Poland, also in France and Germany additional lines of Defense begin to be made or expanded. These trench and bunker style defenses however do annoy Germany who has changed some of their doctrines but none the less do begin work. Within the first month alone additional defenses are constructed and existing ones improved and hardened. The defenses soon bristle with guns, artillery and AA weapons. Strangely Russia makes no reply.
In Russia: Russian transmission continue to confound people. The Russian Wall also at night some say they can hear noises, strange lights and the normal garrisons who watch seem to be focusing less on outside.

Expansion of high speed rail across Europe continues with new tracks laid expecting to be finished within the next 6 months.

Spain: Rival factions within the country are brought to a meeting where most of the most urgent issues between them are if not resolved at least kept from boiling over. Spanish stability grows as people see a easing of tensions between the more extreme factions go decently forming a coalation government which finds itself a bit more able to accomplish the work at hand.

Spain: The Republic of Spain Nationalizes its munitions factories and acquisition, While initially met with some detractors most settle in to accepting it.

Baltic Sea: American ships are sighted in the Baltic not far from Russian waters. Speculation comes regarding why but as yet no US reply has come. In the end many suspect the US navy wants to know as much as anybody what is going on in Russia.

France: France officially announces its belief its manpower shortage after the great war may finally end in 1958 at earliest, most believe it will be by 1964 or 1965. The scars of the great war still run deep in France.

Asia
Reports come in from various Asian nations near Russia of continued strange weather patterns, cold snaps are common when normally they may be mild they are extensive.
The Republic of China : Chinese officials purchase and receive additional weapons to modernize their army as tensions come from the isolated Russian Empire.
Japan: Imperial Japan begins stationing ships around their Russian neighbors eyes watching for danger.

America
United States: In January an anti Grace protest is broken up by police when the protestors get too aggressive. Minor injuries are all that’s sustained and a few are arrested.

Mexico: Oil in Mexico becomes a hot export with hopes of wealth from the finds they begin reaching out to US companies to help exploit it further.

Poland begins to mobilize for a large scale “exercise” officially. What most don’t know is the fortifications are being expanded.

Russia: June -- The until now constant chatter of the Russian Radio network for a brief time suddenly goes silent. Amid the silence all nations wait until a message comes out again. But now all send out one looping unified message. It takes only a short time to translate and to almost all it seems strange. It goes simply “Strength, Brotherhood and Fortitude…in the face of the angry night.”

Spain: - May to June: Spanish efforts to nationalize defense companies meets with concern and does their expansion. Many begin to become concerned.

Asia

Turn 3/Turn 4 [I didn’t do 3 yet so this will be what happened in turn 3 and since events happen here 4s basic stuff will happen in in concurrence]

July Aug and Sep

Europe
Poland: Polish forces report the sounds of heavy fighting periodically behind the Russian Wall. Also lights all along the wall go out. Any remaining minor Russian Radio broadcasts die left only with the loop “Brotherhood, Strength and Fortitude in the face of the angry night.”
Deep Freeze: Europe gets cooler early, temps have dropped this year by 4 degrees faster than normal. Scientists think a periodic cold front has hit.
UED: UED forces have reorganized and moved to the Eastern front in preparation for exercises. A total of 40 divisions and 70 air squadrons.
Spain: Corruption charges are filed against numerous government officials as the country cracks down on corrupting members of the state.
Spain: National health services and medical facilities are modernized and improved as the state declares a need to prepare for the next “pandemic.”
US Navy: the US fleet in the sea stops reporting except a swift SOS broadcast. All it says is “Request aid from any vessels! We….”
Romania: Calls up its reservists and mobilizes.

Asia
China marches 20 Divisions more up to its boarder. Snow arrives early in the east.
Japan: The Navy marshals troops declaring a state of Emergency for reasons as yet unknown.
Japan: The Korean peninsula is a wash in Japanese troops as nearly a million men at arms, tanks, planes and navy forces prepare to defend from an as yet unknown threat.
Mongolia: The Chinese forces on the Mongolian frontier are found massacred, The government refuses to comment beyond the fact the unit is lost.

Americas
United States: Two fleets are deployed to the Alaskan front guarding against possible Russian incursions many think.
United States: US pens a deal to sell weapons and equipment to the British military. This “lend Lease” act is met with mixed reactions. Former president Roosevelt who now rarely speaks to the press called it a “duty of our democratic republic, and something me and President Grace it seems CAN agree on.”

Oct – Dec 1949 [any actions this turn will assume to be before the invasion]

December Europe

INVASION!: Russian Wall is broken!

Europe: In a nightmare scenario early December Poland gets attacked, frantic radio calls for help cry out. Romania also is struck as are Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Northern states fall in weeks, Polands forces along with the few allied units who had arrived already fall silent or retreat within days from fortified lines. Many crying out about monsters! The first German Panzer Divisions arrive in mid December and engage the new enemy, at first they make progress but are lost when some strange machines giant walkers attack. British planes attempt to help but are swatted from the skies. Romanian forces are ran into from the sea and land losing ground swiftly and moving to try and hold key territory in the mountains. From the troops who are interviewed the enemy has many names. In Russian they are the Angry Night, to the Italians they are the Deathless Plague. But above all one name sticks, Chimera. Static defenses seem worthless against this rapidly advancing foe. Positions quickly overrun or tales of worse leak out. The enemy slows down once they reach Warsaw, after several days it is overrun. What Is scariest perhaps is of a city of 2 million people…only 2,000 refugees escape. War has come to Europe.

Polish forces make desperate stands trying to shield cities.

German Tanks engage enemy armor

Asia: Northern points of interest are fired bombed by China but the enemy breaks past in two weeks pushing south. Japans forces get pushed from the north rapidly as the Japanese struggle to hold further rearward defense lines. Asian forces struggle to strike back against enemy positions but find themselves halted in many attempts. A Asian Pacific alliance is hastily formed to share knowledge, resources and jointly fight against the new threat.

Turn 5 Jan 1950 to March 1950

Image

Europe

Germany: As Poland falls as do the northern states and even the port of Danzig is under siege, German armored and infantry forces make it in full nearly 30 divisions fight in the first major engagements. They are backed up by entire air wings of European fighters, bombers and other forces the first full force of European might comes to face the Chimera. The UED is coordinated, focused and prepared. The battle near Berlin is vicious brutal and terrifying. French troops battle in hastily set up defensive positions while German Armor tries to maneuver and flank enemy positions. Spanish infantry make attempts at striking what appear to be Leadership targets but with some mixed results. However limited Spanish aid is the least of the problems. Reports finally get back on what is happening. Large powerful spires slam into berlin and begin infecting the population. The story of Warsaw begins to repeat itself. European air forces hold superiority for the beginning week of the battle. But by week two they are losing planes to continued attrition. By week threes end Berlin is abandoned as Germany tries to evacuate civilians and military forces. This proves nearly impossible and few escape. But despite the devastation the Chimera seem to halt after Berlin. Heavy Artillery bombardment helps knock out enemy spearheads from French positions finally getting positioned. With the battle at a for now brief stalemate elsewhere in Europe things are not going so well.

Romania: Romanian forces are kicked from the mountains and the enemy just as swiftly begin the advance down the countryside. Italian troops here make several attempts to offer air support but find trouble once enemy air forces come in. The Black Sea becomes entirely overtaken by the Chimera forces.

Berlin: Berlin within the end of March is devoid of most life. 8,000 civilians escape but the majority are overwhelmed. Germany begins setting up with France places for civilians to evacuate to and calls for a complete evacuation of eastern Germany.

United Kingdom: as a general call to arms comes so too does an answer from the commonwealth as Canadian, South African and Australian troops in late February land in to assist in the fighting. A total of 30 Divisions of tanks, troops and other forces now prepare to fight another conflict. More is set to come in time.
Through conquered areas: Large Radio spires are being Excavated from the ground. Forming a apparent network of them. Nobody is sure how long they were there or how the Chimera know they are there but they do.
Greece: Greek Forces mobilize but are clogged and held up by congested roads due to refugees. Even the high speed rail system is busy moving hundreds of thousands away from the east. Greek forces arrive in Romania to try to help Italy and remaining Romanian forces in a defensive hold out at Bucharest.
Finland: Finnish forces face the first attacks on the boarder and find them selves entrenched in horrible fighting amid dark tunnels meant to hide from the Russians.

Americas

United States: Protests of former Grace supporters call for a end to patrols near Europe. Claiming Europe’s wars are not the countries.
United States: Despite Protests US forces grow and mobilize as everyone prepares for what they believe will be a second great war. Congress furiously debates the actions of the president some calling him a disgrace while others claim he is merely seeking to protect the United States before there is no time to prepare.

Mexico: Mexico declares itself Neutral in the European conflict and shuts its boarders.

Asia

Chinese territory begins to be swallowed up by attacks as the Pacific alliance gets overwhelmed. The Korean Territories are swiftly conquered Japanese forces chased from it. Attempts to counter attack in the south are thwarted when the human wave tactics by China fail. Nanjing is demolished as the Chimera continue unabated. Slow downs begin still but Asia is under heavy attack.

Japan: Cities get attacked by spires which create new fronts. The US embassy as do others come under attack in Tokyo. As the Emperors palace is overrun the US ambassador normally a sane and logical man gives only a desperate plea to the world openly. “To those hearing this they are killing or infecting everyone! They came in numbers greater than the stars. The Emperors words to me were simple. If we hope to survive it is time for ALL the swords of men to strike as ONE! Stand, fight…Resist!” The embassy hours later is overrun. BY the second month Japan is all but silent. Later forces report some form of sea based launch system was used on a limited initial scale.
