Huojin's Thread for Messing Around

Post by Huojin »

So Aegis and I were talking and neither of us really have time to do a shared persistence file, and since I've been messing around in KSP on my own during downtime between my work and assignments, I figured I'd start a separate thread for it.

First thing that's been done is the Orion Communications Satellite network. 5 satellites in 300km equatorial orbit around Kerbin to provide remote coverage in the area around Kerbin. Each satellite has an omnidirectional antenna that covers 5000km around it, as well as a larger satellite dish that covers a range of 5,000,000 km, but we'll need to aim ahead of time.

The Orion ComSat Network being completed for the time being, an Orion ComSat rechristened the Olympus I was launched into an orbit 3,000 km above Kerbin's equator, as opposed to 300 km.

This satellite is in fact so high above Kerbin, as to be in a nearly geosynchronous orbit, and will remain near the same position above the Kerbal Space Centre for the majority of its mission.

Also, having completed a fairly extensive comsat network, I undertook a new task. To make a space station. Huojin's Thread for Messing Around is proud to announce...

The Molotov Space Station

Currently under construction, the Molotov Space Station (MSS) is a modular space station, and will be completed with various modules flown to the station. The first module, the Huojin Core Module (HCM), is in a 400 km orbit above Kerbin.

The HCM will soon be joined by the Snacks Docking Hub, the Gesar Chemical Laboratory Module, the Orago/Smyg Habitation Module, the McCoy Forensics Module, the Labine Kitchen Module, the Tsaeb Astrophysics Module, the RinKou Cargo Bay, and others yet-to-be-named.

The final rocket stage which brought the Huojin Core Module to its orbital altitude will drop into a lower orbit later in its flight, using what fuel remains to either alter its orbit much further away from the MSS, returning to Kerbin if possible.

The final stage of the Hecate I launch vehicle, which took the HCM to its new home at 400 km above Kerbin, has completed its deorbiting burn and is preparing to re-enter the atmosphere soon. It will likely be an unobserved deorbit, with the spent stage crashing to Kerbin, likely in the sea.

On another note, if you fancy a module named after yourself and you have a suggestion for what it should be, feel free to post!

After a great deal of hard work, the Snacks Docking Module has successfully launched from a modified Hecate I rocket, incorporating a smaller "final" stage and a new final stage using a nuclear engine to manoeuvre whilst using the least fuel in the void of space.

On the final image, the rocket parts to the right of the 6-way Snacks Docking Hub will soon detach and be deorbited, freeing up a fifth berthing for upcoming MSS modules.
