[SENATE] 1929 Anti-Monopoly Act

Post by Smyg »

Presented without comment.
1929 Anti-Monopoly Act

Whereas the ongoing economic crisis puts extreme pressure on the national infrastructure, causing many smaller private companies to bankrupt and have their assets subsumed into larger ones, which in turn creates a significant risk for the formation of predatory cartels and corporate monopolies,

  • Section 1. A Brazilian Anti-Monopoly Board will be formed by the Republic of the United States of Brazil, which shall work to launch inquiries into possible predatory economic monopolies in the field of infrastructure (such as roads, railways, airlines, telephone networks, telegraph networks, radio broadcast systems, water utilities, electrical grids, etc.), and to regulate the same. It will be placed under the authority and oversight of the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works. The first task of the BAMB will be to formulate a proposal for a coherent legal anti-monopoly framework, which will subsequently be presented to the National Congress of Brazil for consideration and review. The purpose of this legal framework will be to allow fair competition in the private sector, and to ensure that infrastructure vital to the Brazilian populace and economy does not fall into negligent hands and disrepair.
  • Section 2. This bill will take effect immediately upon passage.

We find this proposal to be amicable, insofar as it will not be the ones implementing but rather merely proposing legislation to deal with the potential problem of people used this economic crisis to enrich themselves at the expense of the rest of the nation. As such, it has our support.

Given the lack of debate, I will assume the house is ready to vote on this matter. Thus, I will officially begin an official vote on this bill.
