Plea for International Intervention

Leopoldo Benites - Republic of Bolivia
Permanent Representative to the United Nations

Gentlemen of the United Nations. I come to you a desperate man. News are scarce, even to me, but one thing is clear. Much of Bolivia has fallen to the Posadist-Guevarist forces, and La Paz is besieged. Before communications went down, I received a final telegram reporting on extreme casualties among the Fuerzas Armadas during the fall of Sucre, of our airplanes being cast down from the skies as if were they toys. The extraterrestrials, these damnable space beings come to destroy us all, are about to consume my entire nation.

On behalf of Preisdent René Barrientos and the whole of the Bolivian people, I beg of the United Nations to - as fellow human beings - immediately deploy an international force to stop the alien-communist invasion of Bolivia.

Please.

we would be willing to help if it didn't mean the death of any units
that where sent over, for now we will send over some credits to help
but make no promises on any more until we figure out what is happening

The United States seconds the call to remain calm, and, furthermore, calls on the nations of the world to come together to the aid of Humans in Bolivia. This situation may still be salvaged and turned to our advantage, with Bolivia serving as a sort of contact point between the people of Earth and the alien entity, but only if we come together, all as one, to save La Paz, whose name stands for Peace.

Thus our proposal is this: immediate international multilateral aid to defend La Paz and the creation of a UN commission to negotiate with the advancing aliens. Surely, if we show a united front they will stop short of alienating everybody on planet Earth, and it will set a precedent for human cooperation in the face of this threat.

The USSR will cooperate with the Americans only if the USA withdraws its forces from Vietnam and ends its backing of an illegal regime. If the USA wants the support of the workers of the world in resisting this alien threat it must show good faith by not slaughtering these workers in the jungles of Asia.

It is a sad day when the very survival of the human race is put on
hold due to petty arguments and politics, we call apond the USSR to rethink
its whishes and for both major world powers to work on this problem together

With all due respect, I agree with the British representative. My nation is falling to invaders from another world, who cares about the Viet Cong?!

With all due respect, it seems to us as if the delegate from the Soviet Union has gravely mistaken the purpose and nature of this meeting.

Extra-terrestrials have landed, sir. Humanity at this point knows little of their intentions or objectives, but we as representatives of large nations would be doing our peoples a disservice if we didn't properly asses the magnitude of the situation and, unfortunately, given what is happening in Bolivia, at this point that means we must assume the worst.

If our greatest fears come true and the Alien visitors do not bear our best interests in mind, it would be a disgrace (damn right near a form of treason to our peoples) to fail to seize this moment for Human cooperation and insist in remaining divided among petty ideological lines.

Need I remind you, sir, that as far as anyone knows the man who is most closely cooperating with our possible invaders is also an adept of dividing Humans according to "class."

The siege of La Paz is an urgent matter, fellow delegate, the United States respectfully suggests that the gentleman from the Soviet Union refrain from impeding progress in this matter and rather inform us of how his country will coordinate with the efforts already underway to provide relief to the people of "The Peace."

As President Johnson has written, and as he will make clear on this very stage in a matter of days, the United States is prepared to live up to the immensity of this situation. The President has already ordered an immediate ceasefire in all active conflict theaters, including of course the present clashes in Vietnam, and is adamant about the urgent need to hold sincere talks to arrive at an honorable resolution for every side, in every war. The USA would be honored to act as host, sponsor and guarantor during this process, and we're sure this same sentiment will sooner or later find its echo in Moscow.

We are the first Humans to establish contact with an Alien species. For God's sake, man, act like it.

As the home of most neutral international organisations, and an observer member of the United Nations, Switzerland will offer neutral mediation, and the conference and UN diplomatic facilities in Geneva, Bern, and Zurich freely, to be used for discussions of these matters.

while I'm impressed with the US response in this matter I do
feel like a people like the Swiss would be better to be our
direct host/speaker to these new comers, they have a long
and great history of being peaceful and being able to make
deals between warring parties

Brazil supports the positions of the American and British delegates and stands ready to provide support as part of a joint UN effort to secure the freedom, prosperity and peace for the people of Bolivia.

Very well, we propose that the joint delegation leave from a Brazillian airport in a UN air vehicle, and that a UN peacekeeping mission be immediately deployed to La Paz Bolivia to arrive at the same time with it. The delegation is to attempt to establish contact with the Alien entity and talk them out of advance, while the Peacekeepers will ensure that failure to comply comes with a grave diplomatic and political cost. Posadas and his overlords will not be able to hide behind manipulated peasants.

We likewise support the resolution to aid Bolivia, and will offer whatever aid can be spared in this critical peacekeeping mission.

France will support any proposed resolution that provides Bolivia with financial and military aid. However we must remind this body that the deployment of Peacekeepers is the purview of the Security Council, not the General Assembly, and should be brought up there.

République démocratique du Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is not as capable of international power projection as the UNSC powers. Nonetheless, we offer the use and improvement of ports and airfields to those en route towards the battlefield, and towards the defence of Latin America before these sky-worshippers.

Secretary-General U Thant

I regret to inform the ladies and gentlemen of the United Nations that Representative Benites — the last true representative of the Bolivian Government — has suffered a nervous breakdown, and is currently being provided mental care at a New York City institution. When he feels well enough, I hope he will return to his duties.
