-Nobles-

Hynek z Buků 1212-1264. Survived by his second wife and two young daughters, the last of the long line of the Z Buku (From the beeches), Hynek was a vainglorious glutton. His great concept was the inauguration of the self-regulating thieves guild, about three months after he was swept into office amongst the disposal of his predecessor by the guilds in 1248. Since that, he has mostly spent his time tax-farming and drinking. Every year he made a point of conspicuously attending the Universita balls, attending to the election of the Merchant Prince when it came up and making sure his watch commanders maintained a mutual distaste of one another. The city grew somewhat during his tenure, but he was happy to let those who owned the land profit from it (he was one of the group who earnt quite a lot in rents during this time). This has somewhat come to haunt the office as the years dragged on, but at this point in time it is no longer his concern.

His wife, Liběna z Buků (1233-) is now running the house, though what the future holds for their manor is somewhat in doubt, their immense wealth and the loyal friendships cultivated during Hynek's rule should serve her well for the time being. While it is too soon to tell, there are mutterings that the lack of a male heir caused Hynek to treat her poorly during his tenure on this Earth.

Blažej z Dubů (1242-), the young count, came to his throne by a tragic mishap is nonetheless the epitome of the true noble breed, the sort that others had hoped had died out by now. He is seven seconds short of his sword most time, and when he manages to keep his cool he still ~swaggers~. He is brash, impulsive and insensitive. He is currently without wife and frankly appears more interested in stealing those of other men. This is the root of his vendetta with Dům Volinski - he had eyes on Adéla when she was single, sure, but he has been caught trying to catch her attention in rather flagrant fashion since. His persistence is near boundless, though he finds time for dalliances with other young women. He is rather unique in drawing his bastards close to him, but none is old enough to make much of a different and a brood of squalling brats is no replacement for the steadfast solidity of his younger brother. He does have another brother, an older one, but the man is criminally insane, locked in the city gaol as a result of murdering his own father while declaiming about the nature of the moon... The line of z Dubů has always been one that ran hot.

-The Institutions-

Day and Night, Dark and Light, Heads and Tails. Two sides of the same coin. Same and different. So too are their leaders. Mojmír ‘Majoneza’ Jednotlivý (1231-) and Samuel Elánius (1218-). The leader of the Day division got his nickname for being 'thick, greasy and smelling faintly of eggs'. The bastard offspring of a minor noble, he was educated in the fashion of nobility, trained as an officer during the regiments and then slipped into the Day Watch with the tacit consent of Hynek z Buku as a foil for Elánius. The leader of the night division grew up poor, though there are references that his face rather resembles that of his predecessor, the regicide. A house so far fallen from Nobility as to be forgotten by their standard, Elánius nonetheless loves the city and holds the law above all things. His upbringing was on the poorest streets, and his rise has taken significantly longer than his colleague in the day watch. His distaste for 'Majoneza' is well known, and he has privately voiced the opinion that the man isn't worth a pair of cardboard soled boots. There is also the Patrician's Guard, but they are generally involved only in the palace and answer to the Patrician, whoever is elected.

Archchancellor Vendelin Počasívosk (1159-). A rustic from a village in the foothills of the Mrakodrapy, his power was identified at a very early age and shepherded to the Universita. Most of his adult life has been spent on the campus, in the study of mystical and profound magics. So long in fact that he has outlasted most of his contemporaries. Indeed at this point in his life, he has spent more time being old than not. Through the principle of dead-men's curly slippers, he's managed to cling onto the post for the time being, but whatever magics and powers he has, they are no longer shown so easily, or even at all. It is said that Death herself attends the passing of a wizard, and old Vendelin has yet to receive the notice of her appointment. Why the old buffer persists so long? Perhaps she has a plan for him.

-Matters of Spirit-

Hierofant Vlastimil Novotný (1221-), Kněžka Veronika Kopřívová (1208-) and Řád Slavomír Lanik (1227-) like to think they run the spiritual life of the city. They are tolerant of the Small Gods tendency, because they know that they are no threat, because they are the largest organized sects, despite all the hubbub on Táborská. They do however take mild umbrage to the runaway success of the cult of Radegast in recent years. The priestesses of Milá Mileně are a tempestuous and squabbling lot, each congregation taking several of the slots at Small Gods in violent opposition to one another. The priests and priestesses of Rumcajs are found mostly wandering the fields and the villages around the city, likewise they don't have a more formal organized religion, rather praying for small miracles and keeping the spirits of the people of the fields up.

-Matters of Material-

The Guilds are a fractious lot. Each is assigned a section of the economic wellbeing of the city and they work together sometimes, and other times they work in opposition to one another. Ignác Lichý (1230-) likes to boast that if anything moves in the city, it's on his say so. As the runner of the Longeshoreman's Guild he's famous for his dealings with the seedier side of the city, something he likes to cultivate in his image. He is however nowhere near as famous as ‘Král zlaté řeky’ Jindřich Kral (1223-) - the King of the Golden River. Jindřich seeks acceptance from a nobility who will never stop looking down their noses at him. He came up from being a muckraker to forming the tanner's guild and monopolizing the collection of waste through the city, by hook or by crook. He permanently smells of strong soap, as though in adverse reaction to his surroundings. Jan Šváb (1215-)is better liked by the nobles, for all need a good friend in the carpenter's guild. Despite this, his habit of rubbing his hands together as he thinks of his next job has given him a reputation of being avaricious. Vratislav Bosý (1208-) is the nominal leader of the stonecutters. A humble man, he is rather put upon by his colleagues from Mokrá Hora who are happy to rattle his cage as they rally under the more proletarian Adolf Gottwald (1239-) who is pegged to take the position should Vratislav slip. Finally there is the Beggars Guild. 'Kralovna' Markéta Klokanová (1212-) is their elected Queen. It is she who organizes the begging of the city, and as such is one who is well known to have her ear to the ground. Rather famous for bothering nobles for 'A mansion and a few hundred coin?' in her quipping pitch. They occupy a broad fronted, dilapidated building on the Obilni Trh, from which a weathervane of a palm asks the wind for a coin.

-Great Gods of the City-

Červená věž
- Goddess of Protectors and Guardians, the Vigilant one. Antipathic towards Zlatážena due to the other's disinterest in anything but the acquisition and keeping of gold. Milá Mileně is also not in her favour due to her self-absorption.

Milá Mileně- Goddess of Passion and Ambition, the Suffering and the Impetuous One. She suffers and works to always be her best self, no matter who might get in her way. Favored by those of hot blood and wild temperaments, she has a following that Schisms regularly but in doing so believes only in her.

Radegast - God of Beer and Merriment, the Hedonistic One. He drinks away the pain and numbs the anguish within. He brings the joy from the sadness. He is the patron of the intoxicated and no doubt makes sure they bounce rather than break their bones.

Rumčajs - God of Herds and Fields, the Earthfathering One. Who made the seed that brought the corn, Rumčajs did. Who persuades the clouds to rain to water the land, Rumčajs did. Who leads the animals across the earth? Some say Rumčajs does. A fertility god in the oldest sense, his emblem is a phallic one. He ploughs the soil with his member, leaking his seed into the land and growing the green.

Sedm Rukou Sek - God of Craft and Skillful Dexterity, the Tinkering one. He is of seven hands, for he makes things for all, and when making something is it not said 'I need a hand?'. It is his satisfaction to create and inspire and so he does. To be driven mad by Sek is to have so many ideas and projects that you'll never finish them all.

Zlatážena - Goddess of Gold and Acquisition, the Avaricious one. She seeks and claims all gold. For money is the root of all evil, and she will take the sacrifice of holding onto it for everyone else. This quest consumes her interest.
-Small Gods of the City-
Jas - The river herself. She eats the ashes of the dead, takes the waste down to the sea. She brings the water and the life, and she is the consort of Rumčajs.

Šotek - One brother of the house. A small god who makes sure that the walls are sturdy and the house is warm, should the correct manners be followed. Deny a guest hospitality of bread and salt, or kill another beneath your roof and Šotek will abandon you to the uncaring world.

Škriatek- One brother of the house. A small god who makes that the floor is clean and the roof keeps out the wet, should the correct manners be followed. Deny a guest hospitality of bread and salt, or kill another beneath your roof and Škriatek will abandon you to the uncaring world.

Om - The god of quiet moments. Since invoking his name breaks the moments he so treasures, he is little spoken of. However he is the patron of those who take a vow of Silence.

Nuggan - God of pins and pencils. A minor deity of office supplies, mostly known for his never-ending list of abominations.

Delfín - The God of the Sea. A mighty deity on the coast, but of little relevance to the city.

Smrt - Death. She has no temples and no places of worship (though some would argue the Ustredni Hrbitov counts), a few morbid souls follow her.
At the peremptory request of a large majority of the citizens of the province of Sao Francisco, I, Henry Clive, formerly of Ardwick, Manchester, England, and now for the last three years and ten months past of Porto Cotepige, Sao Francisco declare and proclaim myself Emperor of the Sertao;
