I'll forgive all you infidels out there if you don't recognize this guy. He's Mufti Omar Effendi ibn Fadlan, and he's an Islamic scholar and the preeminent spiritual leader for Shia Muslims on Mars. This morning, he issued a Fatwa (a recognized legal opinion in Islamic law, kind of like when a government issues a non-binding resolution) about the Dusters that read in part, "Bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm, In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, they must be swept from the face of creation.", and calling on all the faithful to work towards their "ultimate destruction". He even went so far as to say "Any who struggle against the abominations, and seek their ending, and take up arms against them, be they unbelievers, be they apostates, wage war fī ʾamān Allāh, in the protection of God." Pretty heavy stuff. Now, Shias account for only like ten percent of the Muslims in Mahd adh Dhahab, so it's not as if everybody heard it or even cared when they did. But get this: over the course of the day, dozens of scholars and jurists across the colony endorsed the ruling, including the Grand Mufti Abu Talib al-Atassi and Ismail Mustafa Zana, religious adviser to the President. By noon, it was common Islamic law that the Dusters must be opposed. That doesn't make it actual law, but people all over are clamoring for the government to do something, and now there's rumors that President Barzani is going to send part of the ANMF to the Outliers to help in the fighting. God willing, our soldiers can wipe them all out!

MARTIAN DEFENCE REVIEW QUARTERLY
(Excerpt from article 'This Quarter in New Galilee/Al-Jalil', page 67)

...Entering serial production this quarter is Israel-Palestine Aerospace Industries' new design, the 'Dayah' - which translates as 'Kestrel'. What makes IPAI's latest offering a game-changer to the Martian situation is not the product itself - though by all accounts of the prototypes, they are an excellent military asset that any force would be proud to have in their inventory - but that it is the first locally-produced example of a combat aerodyne in Martian history. The development of manufacturing methods and parts that can produce a modern aerodyne entirely from locally-sourced materials, and using locally-available methods, was carried out by IPAI's facility in the city of New Tiberias. The heart of this effort was quintessentially Israel-Palestinian in nature; with local engineers collaborating with immigrant technicians who had settled in the city looking for work, as well as the omnipresent advisory presence of the Defence Forces. No-one is yet sure of the content of the Knasset defence commitee discussions which led to the vast funding poured into New Galilee/Al-Jalil's budding aerospace industry, but with every citizen of the colony having at one point served their time in the defence of their homeland, support for any measure that will make the embattled Martian Levant safer is unsurprisingly high. Given the alarming recent developments in the militarisation of Mars (see page 17's article on the deployment of massive ordnance air blast munitions), this is only to be expected in so defensively-minded a society as that of New Galilee/Al-Jalil.

Image

While most technical details of the Dayah are, unsurprisingly, guarded secrets of Israel-Palestine Aerospace Industries and the New Galilee/Al-Jalil Defence Force, publicity briefings - such as the poster replicated above, and interviews by the pilots to the New Tiberias Post - has allowed Martian Defence Review Quarterly to produce a brief summary of the new aerodyne's capabilities. Crewed by two pilots - though the Weizmann artificial intelligence system is fully capable of operating the vehicle without human intervention through all stages of use - it is capable of carrying an internal payload either of munitions or transport pods for two soldiers and their equipment. External armament includes hardpoints for various weapons systems, including - as known from analysis of official images of the aerodyne on combat operations - the David's Slingstone air-to-air missile and the Shm air-to-ground missile - and is backed by the presence of a 30mm-calibre, fully-traversible automatic coilgun, fed from a magazine of tungsten slugs or explosive rounds beneath the cockpit. Unlike most aerodynes, it is believed to be capable of supersonic flight, with two Qoros-VS35 variable-cycle engines running from a still-classified internal miniaturised reactor developed by IPAI. Details of the aerodyne's defences are perhaps the most guarded information of all, but sources within the NG/AJ-DF suggest that aggressors would probably have to contend with both internal point-defence systems and a lightweight capacitive armour coating, as well as the expected ECM suite as used by any manned combat aerodyne.

While the New Galilee/Al-Jalil Defence Forces and Israel-Palestine Aerospace Industries have been keen to proudly show our reporters and technical staff their new creation, even going so far as to give us a tour of parts of the high-tech factory complex in New Tiberias where the production line is beginning to work, it is not the Dayah that has turned our heads the most. Quietly, and much more unsung than the significantly-publicised new aerodyne, is the 'Aldabyr' - the Wasp, Al-Technion's new drone. Much less publicity-savvy than the old and established defence wing of IPAI, Al-Technion's New Galilee branch began, oddly enough, as the unlikely proposal of the institute's UAV research department, whom had been desperately trying to secure funding for many years across Earth for their latest concept. Fortunately for Al-Technion, and Professor al-Breem, who heads the department, funding was finally secured for the drone last year. An innovative design, the Aldabyr uses simple components married to a proprietary artificial intelligence avionics system, which has, so far, allowed the workshops of the communes and kibbutzim to produce many thousands of the drones, before sending them to Al-Technion's rapidly-expanding finishing plant in the Suda kibbutz to be fitted and readied. Many of these thousands have already been deployed in vast swarms during the continuing conflict against the Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi Brigades, seemingly with surprising effect. The Aldabyr is known to be capable of either carrying various configurations of munitions, or being equipped with a harness and used to carry the Defence Force's soldiers into the battle, as well as being used to evacuate the urgently wounded to casualty clearing stations behind the lines. See our next article for more details on this exciting new drone, as well as an upcoming interview with Professor al-Breem on just how he came up with the concept...

Alright, so a little backstory on this one, guys. I know most of you only like to post in here when you pick up chatter from the shuttles flying over your favorite listening spot, but I actually enjoy tuning in to terrestrial chatter sometimes: makes it feel a little less lonely out here in bumfuck nowhere. Anyway, I had my signal pickup aimed toward the hills and scanning when I picked this one up. I've provided an excerpt of what could actually be made sense of, but the rest was garbled and I couldn't find the signal again afterward. Sure as shit sounds like military chatter to me, but I've got no idea who it might be or what they're up to.

The Spy was running, his breath escaping his lungs quickly as he skid around the corner of the Medina district of Mahd Ahd Dhahab, he couldn't stop now, pressed by the enemy, he was running as quickly as possible. His shoes, just a few hours ago used to show off status in an important meeting, were now the biggest flaw and mistake in his whole kit. They were killing him, the topline was digging deep into his skin, creating soars where it touched. The tap of the shoes was also giving him away, as everyone can hear him from a mile away, everyone can hear him run. He cursed under his breath, angry at his bad chooses.

As the Spy neared a bridge, he saw a group of men appear before him from around the corner. They were dressed in suits much like his, they were definitely not Arabs, he turned around in an attempt to flee only to meet a similar group gaining on him from behind. He looked around, and realized he has nowhere to go, so he jumped off the bridge into the murky, stinky water of the Medina district's channels. The channels are really shallow, so he immediately felt the grown beneath, as his legs smashed into it, the pain was excruciating, but he had no time, so he sprang back up and started running.

In a while he was free from the stinking canal, soaking wet and tiered he entered into the subway system of the city. He lost the overall of the coat, throwing the tie away and sitting on a bench. The Spy took a deep breath and smiled to himself, he felt stupid, but at least now he could think clearly. He would go back to the embassy and end it all, there he was on Lunar territory officially and nobody can really touch him. Fuck, he hated this job, it was mainly like a stupid journalist, all of this time, all of the training and all he did was sit in the office the whole day gathering shit the field agents (locals) brought in. Spy work was so boring, but now, he clamored for the boring Spy work. He didn't know who was... As his thoughts wondered, he felt a stab in the neck, and just like that he fell asleep.

"Good morning, Mr Soer." he woke up to the sound of a rough voice, as he looked around he saw a group of men all dressed in Martian uniforms and looking at him with contempt, he couldn't recognize any of the faces, but he didn't think he needs to. He was tied to a rope, dangling form a roof in some abandoned building, he was naked and cold. When he concentrated a bit, he managed to find the source of the voice, it was a man standing behind most of the others. His mind started working with the clues it had, his brain deciphering who these men were.

They were tall, taller then any Martianborn, their faces were extremely pale, rough and long and their chests large. They were obviously Lunaeborn, it was unavoidable, in the end, everyone born on that dreaded place looked like that. He could see a few Martianborn in their midst, much shorter, much bulkier. And then, to his surprise, an Earthborn, he was short, bulky, his face reflected that. He was probably a bit stronger then the Lunaeborn, but only just a bit, they were of course faster, gravity does magical things to the human body. The Earthborn was dressed impeccably and carried a smile on his well looked after face that made him look like he was the answer to all your questions. He sat down in-front of the spy, the Earthborn checked the man out with his smile unwavering.

"I am very happy you could join us, sir." he started in a voice that was, oh so familiar. Who is this man, the Spy felt like he has seen him before. And then it hit him, that smile, the suit, Earthborn. No, it couldn't be...
"Jordan? What the fuck... What are you? Aren't you..."
"Hated? Abandoned? Chased of by his own people?"
"I was aiming more at "under arrest", but yeah."
"I was, I escaped. Just like these boys..." he pointed all around him "...I am unhappy with the betrayal of America by everyone, the America I gave everything to protect and help on earth, on the moon and now on Mars. I lost my friends, I lost my family, but I kept going, now I lost my name and my status, but I will keep going. These boys know the same betrayal. Perhaps you, being a spy for Tranquility, are well aware who they are."
The Spy froze, no way. He muttered under his breath "A...america...first."
"That's right. America First. And with their leader death, they were blind, running form your illegal occupation of Horizon. Now they are here, and I found them."
Thoughts entered the mind of the Spy, Jordan Jericho, the corporate head of the NAU in Mars, now a fugitive at the head of the largest American nationalist organization in space. He cursed at President Teylor, why didn't they stop American First when they could... why didn't they stop travel out of Horizon as he had advised them. What sort of an idiot occupies a state and expects it not to open a front elsewhere... fuckers. A crack of a whip and pain brought him back to reality as he screamed in pain, his face turning with horror to the man with the impeccable suit.

"Why?" he cried out in pain

"I have nothing left, but America, and you will tell me everything about her enemies, or die."

[In a dimly lit industrial area, strewn with rubble and broken glass, soldiers are patrolling. Their armour green, their eyes brown, their hearts red, and their souls black. They hum as they march, a heartless rendition of an immortal classic, their low voices coming electrified and cold from behind reinforced visors.]

"Acordei de manhã
Minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus. Adeus. Adeus.
Acordei de manhã
E deparei-me com o invasor

Ó resistente, leva-me embora
Minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus. Adeus. Adeus.
Ó resistente, leva-me embora
Porque sinto a morte a chegar

E se eu morrer como resistente
Minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus. Adeus. Adeus...
E se eu morrer como resistente
Tu deves sepultar-me

E sepultar-me na Montanha Vermelha
Minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus, minha querida, adeus. Adeus. Adeus.
E sepultar-me na Montanha Vermelha
Sob a sombra das nuvens de poeira...

Theologically, the Integralists are superstitious thugs and La Raza is in the right. Thank you for reading.

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

The courier was supposed to be headed west anyways, picking up a "package" for some of the operatives up on the front. But as the North American lines came in sight, he double-checked his pocket for the sealed, handwritten letter he was asked to deliver. The girl -woman, really, and a member of one of the Movement's best fighting forces besides, but she was just so young- had seemed extremely earnest. Call him a sucker for a sob story (and you'd be right), but the way the courier saw it, half of Unity owed the unwitting killer of Alfred Pleath a favor.
Haywood,

It feels kind of weird to call you that now. I mean, we never gave each other our real names, but- maybe I'm just being silly. Maybe it's a good thing, with all that's happening. I joined the Society and the war, fired the rifle that brought that crazy preacher down, and you're a celebrity. Mike Fitzsimmons, huh? One of the Bogdanovists says they used to drink with the guy, and now he's talking to the newest Ranger hotshot. Go figure, right?

Still, when that copy of the Dispatch got passed around, I couldn't help but think it was too good to be true. After all we've talked about, to hear from you, even like that...well, they teach us in Abu Ali Mustafa (heard of us? Not that I'm bragging or anything) that we can't afford hope. We have to know that we're making the better Mars I never managed to shut up about, and that has to be enough. Hasta la Victoria Siempre. Until victory always. We'll always be fighting. But maybe, God willing, we can find the right people to fight at our side. If we manage to meet them, of course.

I probably sound so silly right now, talking about ifs and maybes like I'll know what will happen. I don't even know if this will reach you, though our liason says he'll do his best. Worst comes to worst, that's just another thing we can thank the North Americans for. I had to give it a shot, though. After all, if we can't believe in serendipity, what does that say about the two of us?

...I'm sorry. That sounded way less stupid in my head, and now that I'm writing it I sound like the same teenage girl that Jazz used to pick on. I'm not much better in person, trust me.

Anyways, word is that we're moving out tomorrow night. We don't get much time to rest in the Commando, as you can imagine, and according to the other fedayeen, the plan for this came from Arkady himself. I haven't met him, but honestly, I think I'd be scared if I did. They say he's been fighting since before al-Malika, and that he grew up among the Triunes. Grain of salt and all, but a man like that has to keep the Chancellor from getting too much sleep. Good on him, I say.

So...I guess this letter's for those “just in case” scenarios. I'm not going to make you any promises or tell myself that I'll be okay, but I think that for once in my life, I'm fine with that. I don't have to tell you of all people this, but we're fighting for more than just sending those Nazi assholes back to Jahannam, or showing Zack and the Gorchakov bunch what the People will do to the rest of his kind. It's like al-Malika says. Even if everything we know is consumed by the fire, a new world will come from the ashes. That's something I'm willing to lay down my life for if I have to, and if that happens, I'm glad I've had you in my life.

If not, I'll be happy just to know we'd like the same thing when the time comes. Until then,

Bella ciao.

-Operative Shakti, Abu Ali Mustafa Commando

PS: We all took really quick pictures, mock glamor shot style, with an old camera lying around. Don't let them say that we never had any fun around here! Enclosed a copy, you know, just because.

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Sorry for the quality, good signal is hard to come by out here in the Outliers. Normally the Defence Force put a blackout on the troops' personal communications during operations, but this time, they haven't. So I guess I can keep talking to you guys for as long as I can get any signal. I'm picking up some kind of Chinese network on my PDA, so I guess that's what I'm connected with.

I know nobody was expecting it, but, guess what. After that last offensive against the Jihadists, blowing them all to Jahannam, I was offered a promotion to Sergeant if I'd sign up for a professional tour of duty. Said I was the 'social core of my squad' and they wanted to keep that around for the future. And... much to my own surprise... I said yes! Then, practically the same day as my promotion ceremony and my signing up as a professional, the word went around that Captain Goldman-Tanboura was asking for volunteers for a mission - and well, any chance to work with her is a chance I want to take, no question.

So, here I am. Long story short - flight was boring, this camp is interesting. Never seen so many different nationalities in one place. And it's neat to have a chance to see how the Defence Force will compare.

Toodles!
