Yeah, discussed this with Huojin. I got hit by a load of work recently out of relatively nowhere (manpower issues ahoy) so I'm stepping down since I'm frankly not going to be active outside of a few hours on weekends. Not to mention Lunar New Year is next week and then I'm stuck with family commitments instead and should be completely inactive till March. Sorry Huojin.

Yes! You can either take up the character BgKnight made, or pick someone from here who is listed as R-N (Republican Neo-Conservative), and make up a character for their seat. Don't feel obliged to hold to whoever occupying a given seat. Unless you want to adapt or flesh someone out.

I will take the Progressive Conservative seat since I am told a replacement is needed.

Role: Congressman for Houston, Texas. Chairman of the Republican Patriotic Defense Caucus
Name: Eugene Pławski
Date of Birth: April 17, 1918
Ethnicity: Polish, third-generation immigrant
Religion: Catholic (lapsed)

Biography:
  • Born in Houston, Texas, to a father away serving in the Great War who was killed shortly before the Armistice, and a mother left to carry on running the family's business - a drugstore - in his absence.
  • Honor student in high school, Eugene took part in Navy JROTC activities before enlisting in as an officer candidate at the US Naval Academy in 1936, just before his nineteenth birthday. Graduated with a bachelor of science in Physics degree from Annapolis.
  • At the outbreak of war in early 1942, serving as lieutenant on USS Meredith, a Gleaves-class destroyer.
  • Despite the lack of official declaration of war between Germany and the United States, the combat activities of the US Navy in the Atlantic were not precisely covert, and the Meredith was holed, though not sunk, by an attack by a German u-boat while rescuing survivors from a British convoy.
  • With the Meredith laid up in the Norfolk Navy Yard, and as one of the cadre of pre-war professional naval officers, Pławski was promoted to lieutenant commander and placed in command of the newly-built USS Steve Rogers, a Buckley-class destroyer escort.
  • Commanded the increasingly old and tired Steve Rogers in the Atlantic campaign between 1943 and 1948, earning first the Distinguished Service Medal for his valiant efforts to protect the relief convoys to Britain during the infamous winter Atlantic battles of 1944.

  • Subsequently he earned the Navy Cross for his gallantry during the invasion of the East Coast, at which time his ship fought to the last gun, alongside ships of the Royal Canadian Navy, while beached on a sandbank off the coast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1948. Originally written up for the Congressional Medal of Honor, Eugene's decoration was downgraded before being granted to the Navy Cross, due to the posthumous award to a British exile officer of the Victoria Cross for the same combat.
  • Seriously wounded in that last battle at Halifax, Commander Pławski was transferred for life-saving surgeries at the Corpus Christi Naval Hospital. During his recovery, he was honourably discharged from the United States Navy.
  • Amidst the social unrest after the Treaty of St. Paul, Eugene, after his recovery, found work with the Houston Police Department, becoming a detective. Served with distinction throughout the 1950s, before being appointed as Commissioner in 1963 on a tough-on-crime platform, and dealing with the spate of minor bombings in 1966. Among his achievements during his tenure were the issuing of bulletproof vests for officers after the 1967 Southern riots, and the introduction of the Helicopter Patrols Division using three privately-leased helicopters in 1969.
  • In the congressional elections of 1970, Pławski was put forward as a Republican candidate, and was elected as Representative for his home district, boosted significantly by the support of the Houston Police Union. He naturally resigned his post as Commissioner in order to take up his seat in the House, where he has remained since, taking up membership of committees on law & order and defence as his primary areas of expertise - though also showing a particular legislative interest in energy matters.
  • Known as a man of few words, and an excellent listener, Eugene recently became the chairman of the newly-formed Republican Patriotic Defense Committee. He is married, but has no children.

Role: Senator, leader of the Republican Liberals
Name: Zachary Goldman
Date of Birth: 18 September 1939
Ethnicity: German-origin American Jewish
Religion: Semi-active Judaism

Biography:

(Note: May or may not be propaganda.)

Hailing from a long line of political radicals, Goldman's ancestors came as Forty-Eighters, fleeing the failed revolution back in Germany. Proponents of democratic reform, human rights and liberal nationalism, they became some of the first Free Soilers, opposed to the introduction of slavery in their new home. Their sons, in turn, fought as volunteers for the Union Army in the American Civil War, sacrificing their lives at the altar of freedom.

Far less a man of action, Zachary Goldman yet maintained their sense of political belonging. Born as the war in Europe broke out, many relatives on his mother's side were never heard from again following the Fall of New York City a decade later. Raised in Wichita, Goldman studied economics at the University of Kansas, where he joined several socially radical student groups while at the same time realizing the potential in free competition and entrepreneurship. With a Bachelor's and a Master's in economics in hand, he never garnered a PhD but still became reasonably well known for his academic work and many treatises in the subject.

Eventually entering the private sector, Goldman served as a hired expert consultant for numerous Kansas-based firms, later moving in the direction of political campaigners. No doubt his Jewish heritage worked both in his favor and against him. Eventually he was picked up by the Republican Party. Formally the Governor's Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, but practically the state's most major economic adviser. After a few years he ran for Senate - and won.

Keenly interested in the future of sustainable energy and other environmental issues, foreign affairs (in particular democratic reform abroad and the answer to the "Jewish Question"), establishing social justice without restricting the potential of the American Dream, and a range of other issues, some have doubted whether he belongs in the Republican Party, or the Liberal faction of it which he has come to represent, despite his commonly recognized expertise in distinctly Republican economics.

So after a lengthy chat, Rising Phoenix is leaving MSA. Progressive Conservatives are open again. Anyone who happens to know someone who's free and can play, let me know.

For those confused, Maddox and Rinkou will both be playing as the Progressive Conservatives, since together they have enough free time to act like one whole player. For character purposes, Maddox is Senator Carter (P-MO), and Rinkou is Congresswoman Miura (P-CO). You can negotiate with either or both of them and (by and large) they'll make decisions jointly or in consideration of pre-agreed positions.

Fingers crossed this doesn't turn out to have been an awful idea :3
