Headlines

Each turn there will be some events (either historical or prompted by player discussion and actions) which may be commented upon in the news. They will be posted in this thread, and the opportunity to write about them will last for that turn only. Writing in your national media about these Headlines will bestow certain specific benefits, and may also have wider global impacts.

E.g. if in 1961 the Berlin Wall were erected, players may have the opportunity to write about the Headline "BERLIN WALL". Those who write about it will have the chance, if their post meets any stated criteria and is approved by the GM, to obtain a free "fund political opposition" action, a credit bonus, or some similar tangible benefit.

Participation is entirely optional, and players may utilise their national media for entirely different purposes if they wish, or only post about certain Headlines, or none at all.

BLACK SEPTEMBER

After mounting tensions for many years, violence finally erupted between Palestinian fedayeen and their hosts, the Kingdom of Jordan. With a Syrian intervention repelled, Iraqi troops garrisoned dangerously within Jordan, speculation over Israeli involvement, the US Navy positioned in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the spectre of Soviet support for Syria and Iraq, tensions remain high. A fragile peace remains for now, but with low-level fighting remaining, open conflict is just around the corner.

Earth is filled with refugees. Voiceless and nameless, they drift from place to place, or variably settle in their makeshift communities, all seeking safety in a world that doesn't care. Will you be the ones to give them somewhere to speak, someone to listen to them, a hand to hold, and person to care?

Nations across the world have their own military doctrines. Who are they? What are they seeking to achieve, in the short or long term? How do they intend to achieve those aims? In an age of ramping global crisis and warfare such as the Cold War, the elucidation and thought given to such exercises is surely important.
