Re: Signups
Ok.
The UK is led by Prime Minister Nigel Farage and UKIP. After a turbulent time in the 1990s when the Socialist Party held a minority government, the Labour Party split in two, LibDems took over for a brief period, and far-right BNP took advantage of Islamic terror, socialist protests, and independence movements in Scotland and Northern Ireland. UKIP promised to remove Great Britain from the troubles of the European continent and pulled their troops out of the Polish Civil War. PM Farage is a close ally of US President Donald Trump and skeptic of the BCO power growing on the continent. There's an insurgency in both Ireland and Northern Ireland not seen in decades.
The Netherlands was one of the few countries to stick with NATO after France led the charge to break away from the organization. The 90s saw Islamic terror use nuclear weapons in the city of Marseilles which forever changed the political landscape. The nuclear attack, followed by more conventional terrorist acts, legitimized the anti-immigrant and anti-Islamic parties. In 1998 a terrorist cell led by Vladimir Makarov attempted to free Muammar Gadaffi and Saddam Hussein from their cells in The Hague where they awaited trial. Hundreds were killed including prominent members of the PvdA and VVD parties attending the trials. The final nail in the coffin came in 2000 when al-Qaeda attacked dozens of cities across Europe by flying civilian aircraft into buildings, including Rotterdam. Prime Minister Wim Kok resigned and his cabinet stepped down shortly after and elections were held in 2001. Pim Fortuyn of Livable Netherlands won outright with the help of former VVD spokesman Geert Wilders. Wilders led a split from his party because of their inaction against the terrorist attacks and personally witnessing his friend and mentor Frits Bolkestein die in the attack on The Hague. Later in 2002 Pim Fortuyn was assassinated for targeting Muslim immigrants. In 2003 another election is held and Geert Wilders own PVV party wins outright. Immigration from Islamic countries is halted and border restrictions from eastern European nations is also put in place. Although his politics aligns close with the BCO, PM Wilders has promised to stick with NATO.

Tell me about Germany and Canada. I'm in a lot of games, so I can't promise anything, but if something jumps out at me I might be interested.

Both Germany and Canada are reasonably the same as they are in our timeline albeit more liberal. Germany was not hit as hard as the other European nations, in fact, they stayed stable due to heavy American involvement. They did not leave NATO and the US never lowered its Cold War presence, meaning they weren't as susceptible to the attacks that their neighbors were. Germany has taken in a lot of Arab, Turkish, Bosnian, Croatian, Albanian, Czech, Polish refugees. The SPD has been in power for over a decade and has a coalition with the CDU/CSU. While France and Italy turned closer towards Russia, Germany helped the Baltic nations plus Finland join NATO.Serenissima wrote:Tell me about Germany and Canada. Canada is led by Trudeau much like our timeline. They never saw a small conservative rise due to 9/11 like in our timeline and instead saw the rising conservatism in the US as something to counteract. Canada has become more progressively liberal, allowing gay marriage and marijuana legalization earlier on. They've taken in a lot of refugees as well, although most from Europe like French, Italian, Polish, Spanish, and Czech. There's never been an institutional victimization of Muslims in the US and Canada due to 9/11 not happening. This isn't saying anti-Muslim sentiment doesn't exist, it just means no one in government feels they owe them something for perceived policies. Canada is still strongly in NATO and has advocated for pressuring Russia.

Sorry for the delay in getting this started. It's not dead.
KP doesn't seem to be coming back so I'll need a Russia. After that we'll do a roll call to make sure everyone is still interested and then we'll get going.
