UNGA: Condemnation of Portuguese-Rhodesian Punitive Campaigns

"We and you ought not to pull on the ends of a rope which you have tied the knots of war. Because the more the two of us pull, the tighter the knot will be tied. And then it will be necessary to cut that knot, and what that would mean is not for me to explain to you." - Nikita Khrushchev (1961)

UNGA: Condemnation of Portuguese-Rhodesian Punitive Campaigns

Republic of Zaire

The Republic of Zaire wholeheartedly condemns Portugal and so-called Rhodesia for their continuing maintenance of colonial-racialist regimes, in order to oppress Africa; and their continued disrespect for the rights of the African citizens who have lived across southern Africa since time immemorial. We therefore bring a motion to the UNGA, to again call for both these regimes to end discriminatory, backwards, neo-colonialist policies in Africa. Of late, these two forces of military occupation of the African continent have begun to cooperate to attack African civilians who oppose their racist policies, by punitive retaliation ostensibly against military forces.

The Republic of Zaire therefore brings the following motion before the UNGA:
The UNGA,

Condemning Portugal and Rhodesia for the willfull attacks on civilians as part of cross-border operations against African liberation movements.

Calls upon Portugal to withdraw from their illegitimate colonies of oppression on the African continent

Demands that the illegal and unrecognised state calling itself "Rhodesia" end their discriminatory and racist policies

Urges the UNSC to take action to end the appalling detritus of colonialism exemplified by the Portuguese and Rhodesian forces in Africa.

The USSR absolutely votes yes on this proposal. The end of the systematic racism that lays at the roots of the colonial powers will only serve the peasants and working class across Africa.

The Kingdom of Greece

We consider the territories mentioned in this resolution Portuguese land by law, and as such an internal Portuguese affair. As we cannot have an opinion on such an affair, we will abstain from doing so.

Republic of Cuba

Given it has previously questioned the motives of the Portuguese Republic in similar matters previously, the Republic of Cuba naturally votes YES.

Syrian Arab Republic

The depredations of European colonialism on the African people are unforgivable. That the Portuguese state, alongside the settlers of "Rhodesia", continues to act in such a aggressively imperialist manner in the 20th century should seem unthinkable to the civilizations of our new era. Unfortunately, they are all too real, and as such Syria votes yes.

United Arab Republic

We echo all that has been said in support of this initiative, and have little to add, except our own wholly-hearted YES.
Not actually an ancap, thank God.
