RUSSIAN PRESIDENT ASSASSINATED
December 28th, 1935

Alexander Kerensky, President of Russia, was assassinated yesterday while on his way to the Russian Senate. The assailant, though taken down quickly by Kerensky's guards, was nevertheless able to deliver a fatal shot to the Russian President. The assassin was killed almost immediately upon executing the deed, and his body has not yet been identified, leaving his motives and identity a mystery. What is not a mystery is the impacy he's had on the fate of the Russian nation.

Kerensky spent a brief time as head of the Russian Provisional Government in 1917, before being deposed by Bolshevik revolutionaries in a violent uprising which plunged Russia into civil war. Later, the White forces would rally behind him as a unifying force, and with German assistance, he would come to be installed as President of a new Russian Republic.

The last decade of Russia's history under Kerensky's rule have been typified by uneasy peace. Though Kerensky has not been regarded as an efficient or effective leader in many regards, leaving Russia underdeveloped and isolated politically, he nevertheless was able to retain stability in a tumultuous nation which is still scarred by a devastating and devisive civil war.

Now, however, that fragile peace seems to have ended, as Kerensky is dead, and the power vaccuum is waiting to be filled by whoever is powerful and bold enough to claim it. Political analysts are in disagreement as to the rammifications this may have on Russia's future- namely, who will come to power as a result, and whether or not Russia will be plunged into another civil war. Whatever the case, it is safe to say that the world looks on to Russia anxiously to see what path it takes.

MINDAUGAS III SUGGESTED FOR KING OF POLAND

Image
King Mindaugas III of Lithuania

News of dispatch between members of the Regency Council and Mindaugas III of Lithuania have come to light recently, indicating an interest within the council to elect Mindaugas to the Polish throne.

The impetus to begin such overtures is unclear, but it can be assumed that inspiration draws from the old days of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Long before the Polish state had ceased to exist as an independent entity, it had been in personal union with Lithuania in an elective monarchy, and at one point was a dominant force in Eastern Europe.

The extent of the ambitions in this proposal are unclear, though the nature of the overtures seem to indicate that, should it be successful, a merger of the Polish and Lithuanian states would be the result. It is currently unclear what Germany's position shall be on such an attempt, or what the new state's position on relations with Germany shall be, but government officials seem cautiously optimistic.

Though much cannot be said for certain at this stage, it is clear that the Regency Council is finally moving decisively forward in the direction of electing a new king.

VOICE OF POLAND

BLACK MONDAY AND THE GERMAN PROBLEM

Image
The antiquated emperor, in all his perfidy

It is no secret, friends, that our fair nation has suffered much. From the shameful partitions of yore, to the last years spent under the German yoke, the Polish nation has been battered, beaten, and brought to submission. Even under the guise of liberation, the Teutons had imposed on us a weak and squabbling Regency Council, which primarily due to their machinations had been left in stasis for a decade.

And now, my countrymen, the occupiers have imposed a double blow upon us. No doubt you have heard of them already- The vile Black Monday which has sunk our economy into disarray, and the election of a new king to the throne of Poland. But do not think this second point any great turn. For who has the Eternal Regency imposed upon us but the King of Lithuania, Mindaugas III- or so as he was known before his coronation, Karl Gero von Urach!

Indeed, we have not only seen forced upon us in these turbulent times a foreign noble as monarch, but one of distinctly German descent, whose line was installed to control the people of Lithuania as a German puppet state! And now the Teutons seek to further their grasp on Poland with this move, using an economic disaster of their own making as the excuse!

We have been denied, my countrymen. Rightful Polish lands remain well beyond our reach, whilst we lose independence by the day. Even our leader is denied to us, the position held by a German rather than a Pole. Not since the final partition has our glorious nation seen such dark hours.

Yet not all is lost. The spirit of a nation united is indomitable. Poles, you may take back your country and nation from the usurpers, if you only rise up and take it! Our chance soon comes. An election has been called to decide the legislative makeup of this new 'Commonwealth.' When the time comes, we must rise up to ensure that neither German nor Lithuanian is allowed to control our destiny. We must prove that, throuygh strength of will, Poland shall always claim her right in this world, and make this age hers. Only together, united, as peoples of Poland, can we prevail!

THE RISING PROLETARIAT

THE FRENCH MODEL: SOCIALISM IN THE MODERN AGE

Image
Delegates at the First International Congress

On May Day, the worker has gained much to celebrate of in this world.

in 1920, the French proletariat threw away the shackles of their masters and founded the Commune of France, the first lasting socialist state in this world. Under the guiding light of syndicalism, the French have begun the construction of a new and greater society within their very own borders, a light which not even the old order led by the Kaiserreich has been able to snuff out.

The gains of the people did not end in France, however. In the intervening years, Britain and Italy saw similar revolutions. And now, across the world, the toiling masses continue to rise. No longer can the bourgeoises sit in squalid splendor whilst we carry them upon our backs, and no longer do we work blindly to the potential for a grander future. The flame has been set in Europe, and now, with the failures of capitalism growing evident by the day, the superiority of the socialist way is becoming clearer.

From the Americas to China, and even here in Poland, our cries shall not be silenced any longer. What the privileged and exploiters have taken and kept from us, we will take back. What we have toiled to make, we will keep. No longer can we be silenced or stopped.

The world shall remember what happened in France all those years ago. They will remember it as the catalyst for a process which would set the people of the world free.
