Late 1987

Clean Nuclear Power

We are pleased to announce that the country's decade-long pursuit of clean nuclear power could be at its end with the announcement of a partnership with the People's Republic of China. The agreement includes Chinese funding for half of an initial dual reactor project to be located near the Gulf of Sidra. The location is advantageous and will allow the plant to support a program of seawater desalination as well as domestic power. The potential to export power to neighboring countries at a reduced rate is also possible. Libya will also agree to a number of inspection regimes to ensure the safety of the plant in light of recent events in Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.

Prisoners Released

The Government has announced the release of all political prisoners and POWs in relation to the conflict in Chad, as well as a number of low-level drug offenders. These actions represent a new focus on transparency within the government and a desire to address the global problem of drug abuse in a more humanitarian and less punitive measure. The Government also announced further drawdowns of troops from the frontline of the southern border.

Oil Production Slows

Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have convened to reduce global oil supply as one of its few means of punishing the West for its continued support of the murderous regime in Tel Aviv. While members were only required to cut 5 percent, the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya volunteered to lead this effort and pledged a ten percent cut in support of the Palestinian people. Leaders have pledged further cuts are possible while we await the response of the Colonial powers.
