So guys. I really don't think I can continue taking care of this server. School is becoming fairly demanding in both the time and monetary senses, so Minecraft kind of has to take a back seat for a while.

I'll be posting an download link for the map in this thread before it goes down on Saturday.

Hate to go all anti-climatic on this, but since I derped and forgot to download the map files on Saturday, I had to renew the service for another month in order to access them.

So I might as well just leave the server up for a month.

Well, there is a bunch of new stuff in MC now. Plus, some Molotovians have been asking to play MC again... so is your server still up Labine?

I think there is some renewed interest.

Also, I'd be happy to throw up a MC server via Multiplay for a while if people want.

Labine, how much RAM did our last server have? All we would need max is 10 player slots, which is cheap, but more than 1.5gb RAM really brings the price up.

A gig, if I remember correctly. I'm going to write myself a reminder to track down the name of that one server host that was much less pricey than MultiPlay, (With theoretically comparable network performance and stability?) if you are interested. Since with MultiPlay you have to pay that contemptable 20% British value added tax.

Damn VAT. Yeah I'm interested. Let's get some MC back in this house!

Yeah throw me the names of some GOOD hosts. A Google search shows me some really cheap server options, but I want reliability and all that jazz, and preferably they accept PayPal.

I found a site via Google that gives me 2+ GB of RAM, promises 99.9% uptime, and all that fun stuff, for $30 a month (that's about the ceiling for how much I want to pay).

I'll look through the reviews, but I'll probably go with 1GB RAM and 8 player slots via Multiplay, because they have a good name for themselves, and your old server ran fine with them.

MultiPlay does have that going for them. Sound as a pound.

Friday I will have a server up via FragNet.

A lot of you guys seem to like the exploration aspect of MineCraft, so I compiled an installer (real simple to use) that I'll distribute later to install the current version of MineCraft (pirated version, so don't need an account), and some mods that i think you guys will like, and fit well with our exploration theme.

The mods simply add new structures, in the form of villages, ruins, and even underground dungeons. I think it will add to the fun factor of wandering around the vast open world. Mobs will be turned off, so those that find the building aspect of the game most appealing will be able to build with ease.

I am happy to oversee a server for you guys, since there is renewed interest. I know mods are a controversial thing. I once was a strong advocate of mods that change the mechanics of the game, or do something drastic. I like the "RPness" we had on the server throughout some times, but I think the best roleplaying we did in PattonCraft / MolotovCraft just happened, not directly the result of a mod that adds RP mechanics. Building a castle next to a village and saying "Hey, I'm the lord of this fief" or a Buddhist monastery and saying "Hey, I'm pretty zen" is what I like, you don't need a mod to do that.

However, I will use some mods that promote RP and enhance the experience, but not drastically changing major aspects of the game, as long as I can distribute those mods in a easy to install manner.

I look forward to crafting mines!

The client you need to connect to the server is uploading as I type here.

Alright, before you install the client, you should uninstall any previous versions of MineCraft. So, go to My Computer, type in %appdata% in the address bar, delete your ".minecraft" folder, and then launch the .exe I will link you here in a second. You will then be able to connect to my server, which I'll link the address to and all that jazz soon as the client is uploaded.
